Question Has anyone tried Clindamycin Lotion, Benzoyl Peroxide 5% and Retin-A??

My friend swears by this combination for acne but I've been trying it for a week and my skin is WORSE than ever. She says its normal to have a BAD breakout the first week or two.... can anyone confirm this? I don't want to use products that make my skin worse!!

Any other thoughts on any of these products? Thanks

The Retin A usually causes the breakouts to get worse before getting better. However, the clindamycin usually starts working almost immediately. But I think benzyl peroxide takes a week or two before it starts to work. I used Retin A for years and loved it. Now I use the benzyl peroxide but I think my skinis starting to get better since I've been on GLucophage Xr.

Good luck,
Sherry

My skin wont tolerate Benzol Peroxide. Maybe you are sensitive to it also. I hear there is a percentage of people who can't use it. Also Retin -A is too harsh for my ultrasensitive skin. I tried it more than once but stopped due to additional breakouts. I can tolerate a topical antibiotic though. It is hard to say what will be ok for one person over another. I would give it a while longer but use your best judgement and if you think youre hypersensitve give up one product at a time and see what happens.

None of those things seemed to work for me. My doctor recommended that I use a cleanser, toner and moisturizer with Saliac (spelling?) Acid. It seems to be working pretty well. Finally at 25 years old I'm seeing some relief from my horrid acne. Hope it helps

Thumbs up Benzoyl rocks!

I love acne creams with benzoyl peroxide! It really wipes out acne! But! If you use too much it can kind of dry out your skin.

I use clindamycin, retin-a and tetracycline. That combination works great for me. The retin-a made my skin worse at first, I had redness and what seemed like never ending peeling. My doctor then gave me a lower strength-he had statred me out at .25% then switched to .05%. I saw improvement in 2 months, my skin felt stronger and firmer. The clindamycin seems to make my skin less red and blotchy and helps with the irritation if I accidentally use too much retin-a. The tetracycline helps the cystic acne from appearing. In my opinion it is worth trying as long as you can be patient through the intial breakout.
Hope this helps!

Post clindamyacin gel + plexion

I use the clindamyacin clear gel periodically and wash daily with a px cleanser called Plexion. It's sulfur based and you can smell it, but it's been a godsend for me. Benzoyl didn't really do too much once PCOS came about. Retin-A by itself (tried various doses over 8 mo) just dried my skin out and made it flake, the zits just stayed there and laughed at me!
