A close friend of the family referred Goji juice to me, and sent over some paperwork and testimonials about it. I did some research on the internet, and found out some of the information about it, and also some of the people's ideas that it is a scam.
I have been unfortunately diagnosed with a chronic migraine, one that hasn't gone away in the last 7 months. I am on hefty pain meds just to get out of bed in the morning, and still work my 40 hour work week.
I've tried over 30 medications, and am starting to look into alternative remedies. I have been to the chiropractor and tried accupunture, and thought I would see if anyone had tried Goji juice.
Thanks in advance!! Kristi

hi
aww, sorry to hear about your migrane - hope you find something that works for you soon i havent bought goji berries myself, but my mum has been eating them. They are a 'big thing' over here in the uk right now.
eva
Sorry that you are having chronic migraine pain. Wow, 7 months, must be so difficult. I hope your docs have done complete testing to find the cause.
I drink a special juice drink called Ziwi. It has Goji Berry extract, along with Acai berry extract, and fucoidan. I don't have chronic migraines, but I drink it for the super packed nutritional benefits. I like the Ziwi because it is not heat processed, plus, the Acai and Fucoidan add additional nutrients that make it completely nutritionally balanced.
I don't know if Goji juice would help chronic migraines or not, I guess it depends if the cause of the migraine is the lack of some of the nutrients that are in the juice.
It also depends of the quality of the Goji juice. Most bottled juices are pastaurized, or heat processed. The heat destroys a lot of the nutrients.
A better choice would be a freeze dried powder that has not been heat processed, or actual dried Goji berries that have not been heat processed (available at most health food stores).
Everyone is different, and what helped one person may not help another, so really, unless you can get a nutritional assessment done to assess the nutritional needs of your body, the only way to tell if that product will help you is to buy it and try it.
I hope that you can get relief soon.

My doctors have done a full work up on me. I've seen three neurologists, an allergist, an endocrinologist, a pain specialist, a chiropractor, an accupunturist, as well as my regular doc. I've had an MRI, a spinal tap, and MANY blood workups as well as neck X-Rays.
They have no clue what is causing it, or why it has lasted so long. It's really frustrating, I wish that something could be figured out.
I don't know if Goji juice will help either, I put in an order today, so I can give it a shot. From all I read is that it won't hurt me, there aren't any side effects or interactions with the medications I am taking.
Thanks Cara for the info on the Goji berry. If this one doesn't work, I'll give that a shot! It's pretty much a guessing game on what will work or not. So far nothing has worked, I'm just hoping something will!

Is what you are having are migraine headaches? If so have you had your eyes checked out? and I see you said you been to a allergist, did they give you a list of foods to stay away from if you are experiencing migraines? I have a list of foods to stay away from that I posted on another thread but if your interested I can post them again for you. Do you or have you taken fish oil capsules?
You might also want to try ginger for your migraines. You can take about one-third of a teaspoon of powdered ginger mixed with plain water. You should see a difference in your migraine within about 30 minutes if you do you can take up to one-third of the powdered ginger 4 times a day, you can mix this with the water.
I have tried the ginger, and nothing. This migraine literally has not gone away once, even for a few minutes in seven months.
I did have my vision checked, both by my excellent eye doctor and by an opthamologist. I checked out perfect from both of them!
I haven't ever taken fish oil capsules, not sure what the benefits or harms of that is.
My allergist did give me a list of things to stay away from, and they are all things I don't eat anyways. I've read a couple of books on chronic migraines, and have modified my diet to eliminate anything that could keep the migraine going.
The pain is so bad, that I have to take large doses of major pain killers to just function at a bare minimum, which unfortuantely means that I kill myself to get to work and perform well, and then I come home and crash. My emotions are so sensitive, that just about anything sets me off.
I did have a leave of absence from work for 5 weeks, and it didn't do a whole lot. I really wish it would have.
I hate that my life has come down to this, it's not a fun existence, and unfortuantely some of my "friends" bailed on me and didn't care to continue the friendship since I have been so sick.

Lfgd20- This is what it says in a book I been reading about Fish Oil vs. Migraines
Eat fish as a headache preventive. Experiments at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine by Dr. Timothy McCarren have shown that taking fish oil capsules for six weeks blocked migraines in about 60% of subjects with severe migraines, cutting the number of attacks in half-from two a week to two every two weeks. The pain and severity of the headaches also lessened. Men were more apt than women to get relief from fish oil, for unknown reasons. Dr, McCarren also suggests that eating less saturated animal fat can sometimes prevent migraines because saturated fat stimulates formation of a particular hormone-like substance, triggering events that can lead to migraines.
This does not mean you can take a bite of fish like a pill when you feel a headache coming on. The research, however, suggests that regularly eating fish, especially fatty fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel and sardines may have long-term effects on brain chemistry, helping lesson migraines attacks over a period of time.
* Also, if you drink milk, it says it is the number-one suspect for migraines.
**I know it says that men were apt more than women to get relief from fish oil for unknown reasons, but you never know you could give it a try and see what happens.
Here is some herbs it suggests you can take in another book I been reading.
Herbs: The following herbs may relive headache pain: brigham, burdock root, feverfew, goldenseal root, lavender, lobelia, marshmallow, mint and rosemary.
You can look into them or do some research on those herbs.

I would just like to add to all the great advice you got here, that for me taking magnesium citrate worked really well. Although I have to say my migraines were hormone related and I never had them for months at a time. I don't know how you function at all, but I do hope you find a solution soon. The magnesium works well, and the only "side effect", if you want to call it that is you become a real "regular", in the bathroom. It's worth the pain releif though.
Hi,
Not sure about goji and migraines. I am starting mine tonight. I do know that my hubbys aunt is selling it now and she is like the sweetest kindest little lady and wouldnt lie about anything. She was taking it for her menopause and her husband started taking it for the fun of it before he did though he thought he was going to do his own study ect. Well they both went in and had bloodwork done. he is prediabetic which he knew and got his numbers and she had some other bw done @ the chiro clinic that was selling it to her. I am not sure what her test consisted of but i do know that his bw came back after almost 2months of taking it and his numbers went down from 123 to 88. So something was working. He didnt change his eating style @ all lol.
But other then that i know she said she is sleeping better alot better! And her hot flashes and other meno stuff are no longer around.
freelife.com is where my bottle came from. As far as the migraines go i used to suffer from them i was given a high blood pressure med and then some other migraine meds i dont remember it was so long ago. I didnt have high bp but it helped my veins in my head that were swelling go down basically iswhat i was told. And so it was more for prevention of migraines so often. I no longer take these meds and nor do i need to. They stopped within 3months. So good Luck to you hope you figure out something because they are an awful thing to suffer from.

see if you can pick it up at your library, or at a bookstore.
i really hope you feel better soon. i have an idea of how you feel. i had daily headaches/migraines for two years. they lessened a lot, both in severity and frequency, when i removed gluten from my diet.
take care.
oh, and, have you tried excedrin? i know it's an over the counter pain med, but it worked much better on my migraines than the duradrin that was prescribed for me. and, i have to second the magnesium. it really helps my headaches stay away.
