Default Has anyone tried gymnema?

I have just begun to add gymnema to my daily regimen. I'm hoping this will lessen the amount of metformin I need to take. Has anyone tried gymnema with or in place of metformin?

No - I haven't even heard of it. Do you have any references for its properties? I'd be interested, especially if it treats insulin intolerance...

You peaked my curiosity, so I checked it out: http://www.drugs.com/npc/gymnema.html

It looks like it has some potentially very beneficial properties. I would say the downsides are that the interactions are not well noted.

It is part of a supplement I bought at Wal mart in the diabetic section. It's called "Sugar Blocker." I'm willing to try anything so that I won't have to take metformin anymore. It's side effects are so bothersome.

I tried Gymnema, and had a wierd experience. I think you should check your blood sugar while taking it. I was driving my van, and had what I would call an outer body experience...or something, it's like I was like I was looking at myself driving, scary experience...and it only lasted a second, so I decided to stop, but I don't remember if I was taking 1 or 2 tablets....and I wasn't keeping track of my blood sugar, so....I am saying it's not a bad thing to try, just that you should monitor your sugars, so you know if it drops it too much.
