Default Has anyone used Vaniqa?

Hi, I'm brand-new to SoulCysters although I was diagnosed with PCOS 13 years ago when I was 16. My doctor just recommended Vaniqa, and although drugstore.com has it fairly cheap, my health insurance doesn't cover it. So before spending $129 for a three-month supply, I thought I'd ask y'all whether you've had any luck with it.

I did do a search in the forums for the drug name but didn't get any hits...am I spelling it right or is it true that no one uses it?

Thanks!

A tube lasts me much longer than a month - more like 10 or 11 weeks, applying it twice a day. It may be up to 8 weeks before you notice any difference. Between the Met and the Vaniqa, I have noticed a big difference. Vaniqa slows hair growth, it doesn't stop it. I don't think any insurance pays for it. My doctor told me that when she prescribed it.

I had lots of blonde hair on my face, chin and neck and it was kind of corse and long, and then dark hair too. I could pluck the dark hair, but there was way too much of the blonde hair to tweeze. I've always had bad problems when I wax my face. Either the Met or the Vaniqa has made the blonde almost disappear and I only have to tweeze a few dark hairs once a day now. I was tweezing twice a day and many more dark hairs before I started the drugs.

The price on drugstore.com is very good. I paid $56 at Walgreens and that was the best price at any pharmacy around.

One tube lasts me more than a month as well, more like 2. I've noticed a difference but I still do have to shave every day (as opposed to sometimes 2x a day before I started using it). And as for insurance....hah.

I love Vaniqa. I started using it in December and that tube lasted me until almost the end of Febuary. I have noticed a huge difference. I get electrolysis on my chin and have only had it twice this year so far. And I now only have to shave my top lip once a week instead of everyday. I am also on Met but I have only noticed this much difference since starting vaniqa.

I used Vaniqa for 4/5 weeks and it did nothing for me. It just gave me ingrowns (more than before) and did NOT thin the hair. Plus the tube is so small I didnt think it was worth wasting my time...

My doctor told me not to expect any results for 6 - 8 weeks, and ingrown hairs can be one of the side effects, especially in the early weeks of using it. I really think the tube size is deceiving, especially since a tube lasted me about 10 weeks. You don't have to slather it on, just cover the areas with a thin film. When I go back to my Dermatologist I'm going to ask her for a 3-tube prescription because of that wonderful drugstore.com price.

I started my Vaniqa just a little before my Yasmin. I've had terrible hair problems for years, shaving every day. It was to the point when I was embarassed for anyone to see me in late afternoon because of the shadow that had already grown out. Nevermind if hubby and I went out with friends later on. I remember several nights playing board games in well-lit rooms in misery cause I had to keep covering my lip, chin and neck with my hand to hide it.

I am happy to say that between the 2, I now only have to shave every other day. It has helped with the fine blond hair up the sides of my face and the course, dark hair everywhere else on my lip, chin, and neck. I, too, find that one tube lasts much longer than a month, and I also get mine at Walgreens for about $50. It has changed my life and I am very happy and confident now. I rarely think about it anymore!

Default I use it

I think it works great! I found that if I apply it after I get out of a hot shower or washing my face with hot water that I can use less because my pores are still open.

I only use it on my chin and neck, so a tube lasts me for a really long time. I was getting ingrown hairs quite a bit - I never thought it was connected to Vaniqua but I spose it could have been. I don't get them much at all anymore thank goodness!

The paper that comes in the box that your Vaniqa tube comes in has all the info that's probably why your dr didn't mention how long it might take. Bristol-Myers/Vaniqa says you could see results in 4-8 weeks but if you don't see results in 6 months to discontinue use.

My tube lasts up to 2 months as well, but in the beginning I went through my first tube in probably 6 weeks because now I seem to need less of it. I think it is well worth the expense.

I have been using it for about 4-5 months and I'm still on my first tube. I have to admit that I don't remember to use it 2x every day, so I expect it would probably last about 3mo and it cost me about $55 per tube. My insurance doesn't cover it either. I don't even think my flexible spending account is going to pick it up either. (They automatically pay my pharmacy co-pays and didn't pay this one) It is working very well for me. It took about 8 weeks for me to see good results, though. It is definitely worth the $$ to me. Thanks for the drugstore.com tip!

Check Costco's price too if you have one nearby. Their online price was $46.07 for one tube and $132.67 for three tubes. You can only order online in a few states, but I've heard you don't have to be a member to use their pharmacy.
