Default Has Metformin help regulate your cycle?

I've been on Met for more than three years. Is there anyone out there that has been taking Met and still does not have a regular cycle? All of the periods I've had these past few years have ALL been induced by taking Provera. I have yet to have a period on my own. I read lots of stories that just taking the Met alone helped regulate their cycle.

I recently started working out a few days a week. Since the Met hasn't helped regulate my cycles, I hope the excercise will help.

Looking for a glimmer of hope. I so badly can't wait to be a mommy.

My doctor put me on met to regulate my cycles i ve not been on them quite a month yet and started and started in between cycles, so i wouldnt like to say if AF was any different or not, this month i ve definitely noticed more CM and at the right times of the month. But my doctor definitely said to me i wouldnt notice any massive difference without doing any exercise which is what i plan to do when i start uni again. I think most of the doctors in the uk recommend healthy diet and plenty of exercise with met to get the full effects from it

HTH and good luck

Met has helped regulate my cycles, but it didn't when I was on 1500mgs. When I got up to 2250, then my cycles came without any outside help. They were 33 days. After I lost close to 100lbs, they went from 33 days to 27-29.

Hope this helps.

I've only been on Met since May, but it hasn't helped with anything so far. I'm on 1350 mg/day but trying to work my way up to 1700 slowly. My periods have been forced with Provera as well every few months. I hope things get better for you!

2000mg before and other levels below have never brought on AF for me... always Provera. I'm trying 1500mg with weekly acupuncture (so expensive) right now. We will see... doc wants me to hold off on using Provera for a bit so we can see if this works.

i have been on met for almost 3 years, started at 500mg now at 2000mg, and it has never brought on af much less regulated it. i continue taking it because i was dx with type 2 diabetes 03/09. i kind of wonder if the met would help more if i weighed less...hmmm

I started Met in August of this year (1000 mg) and after ~2 weeks on it AF came. Since AF hadn't come since March before that, it seemed pretty promising, but no more AF since so, maybe it was a coincidence, I'm now cd41 and going crazy!

I have been on Met for nearly 2 months (500mg). I got AF 3 days after starting, which seemed like a fluke because that made it a 28 day cycle - when I had been having 90+ day cycles. On next cycle it came on cd32. I do also exercise a lot at least 6 hours a week and have lost 47 pounds over the last 21 weeks on weight watchers, which probably helps too.

Good luck.

weight loss and exercise go hand in hand with success on metformin. the better health you are in the better your body is going to work.

The first time I took Met my period came like 3 days after started (1000 mg) this time, I took it for 3 months and nothing, so I just got AF with the help of provera. Not sure why it worked the first time, and not now.

I have been on met several times. It wasn't until i was diagnosed with diabetes in may that my dr. prescribed 2000 mg and presto! my cycle has been regular for the past 3 months. I don't think I am ovulating, but just to have a regular cycle on the met is pretty amazing for me. good luck to you.

I have been taking Met for about 5 mths and everymth my period has came and lasted 7 days like normal. Except for last mth I noticed just some spotting. I have lost way over 20 lbs now too and I know that helps.

I took Met for one month and was able to ovulate on my own, which never happened in my 6 years of TTC. I was also able to get prenant that cycle and continue to take Met during the pregnancy.

My RE says that any dosage of Met under 1500mg will not have an effect on a PCOS patient. He starts with 1500mg and then ups the dosage if has not made any change in the cycle after 6 months.

I would say just give it time, as I have seen a cyster on here who didn't get her AF in like 5 years and got it on the Met (I think she took 2000mg). She went from no AF, to getting it after 70 days, then around 60 days, then around 45 days.. until she got down to about 35 days and got preggo. She had lost a considerable amount of weight while doing this. The Met helped her a lot. Reading her story was one of the reasons why I decided to just go ahead with the Met. I stopped all the fertility drugs months ago because they were giving me terrible mood swings and I became frustrated.

I would just say to stick with it... her journey wasn't fast, but she got there. I think it took her about a year to get there. Not sure, but I think the story is under Metformin Success Stories, in the sticky notes above the regular posts. If you read there, you will see what has worked for most people.

One more thing... you must take the meds on a regular basis. On time! Everyday! Do not skip doses or days. It will hinder the drug from working properly.

Good luck!
