I have only had one random period since starting met in July 09. 1000mg from july to sept, now at 1500mg with no af in sight.

Hi guys. Today is my first day...I got diagnosed with PCOS last week,,, I didnt know what the heck it was, i was freaking out. My doc gave me 3 prescriptions.. one Metformin, second Yaz birthcontrol, and third Spironactone or something...I think my Metformin is 850Mg..she said she wanted to do an ultrasound 2 weeks after i started these pills...She did a blood test on me and my levels came back all jacked up which is how she diagnosed me with pcos...I guess im confused,,what if i go for my ultrasound, and they dont find any cysts? does that mean i dont have pcos?
And with the Metformin..is it suppsed to help you lose weight? and what are the side affects? Im on day 2...! thanks u guys

Good luck! I too was just diagnosed and very confused- I wish you luck- I tried to IM you but couldn't because I have not posted 30 times yet. It would be nice to talk to someone that also was newly diagnosed- I am a bit confused and trying to figure it all out!

I was dx with PCOS based on symptoms of no AF, no O, excess body/facial hair, central weight gain..... Ultrasound showed no cysts.
I've never started Met more than 500mg for at least a week as side effects treat me bad sending me to bathroom more minutes than not, and I lose a lot of appetite. It is supposed to assist in weight loss but not always for everyone.
I was at one point on 1000mg Met and 50mg Spiro. Docs have always waited 4 weeks to do repeat labwork but it took me from end of July until 2 weeks ago to get to 4 weeks at 1500mg Met. Labwork showed free testosterone dropping a bit but Met has never brought AF on for me.
It works different on everyone.
