There're a lot of success stories with met over on the success with metformin thread (I'm pretty new and I don't know how to post the link, sorry). I have read that it is possible to have a period and not ovulate and that sounds like what you're having. You probably don't ovulate because of Insulin resistance like me. Met improves your insulin reistance and allows your body's hormones to get back into balance. I think what happens is that insulin blocks the follicle stimulating hormone and your follicles don't mature and thus you don't ovulate. You should google if you need more info on that, or ask another cyster. As far as met goes, you should at least try it for a few months and see if it improves anything. Talk to your dr. Hope that Helps!

thanks for breaking it down! i didn't understand why my cycle could be so regular and yet i don't ovulate. so if that's the case with me, then hopefully i'd be able to conceive without using clomid. i've been taking met. for 4 months and i've lost nearly 50 pounds. i had some bloodwork done a few weeks ago and i've called to get the results but the dr hasn't returned my call yet.

wow grats on the loss. We're you trying to lose or just a side effect of met? But can you not ovulate with a temp raise? (granted the temp raise might have been from the clomid but still no pregnancy yet)
My cycles were sometimes normal and sometimes not. I tried Clomid, Gonal-f, HSG, SA, and Lap. No pregnancy. On my 2nd full cycle on Met I conceived. It doesn't work for everyone, but if you've tried everything else, it's worth a shot.
