I am almost sure it is hormone related. My mom had straight hair her entire life and it went super curly when she went through menopause.

my hair used to be straight but with a slight wave to it, now however, I can't keep it down! I swear, I kept getting depressed cos i thought it wasn't growing, but then when i went to straighten it, i realized it's grown loads but curled upwards!!!!
invest in some straighteners, and straighten the hair when it's damp. but NOT wet! water and electricity do not mix!
loves xxxx

I have had straight hair as a kid and it's slightly wavy now (my brothers all have had curly or very wavy/textured hair for a while now) so I don' mind much about that..
However, has anyone got hairs that go from being a normal hair to immediately change into a curly course black hair (or VERY dark brown). I had them start popping up I guess about 5 years ago, and just they are getting to be more and more frequently coming up |

This is my hair at the age of 17 (about 10 years ago)... in this picture it is completely natural and not straightened at all. It is more than likely even air dried. It was smooth and not at all wavy.
This is my hair now air dried... With NO gel or anything in it... completely different texture (coarse) and now it is wavy.

My Mood: Points: 14,254.17 Bank: 1.08 Total Points: 14,255.25 | Mine used to be straight and perfect (I often didn't even brush it).
Over time (in my 20s), it has become out of control frizzy/wavy, but the curls aren't uniform, so I look like Albert Einstein if I don't straighten it. I'm not exaggerating, either - dh laughs at my hair every morning.
It's such a huge time-waster every day, dealing with my hair. I keep going shorter and shorter, hoping to hit upon a cut that will work, but nothing ever does. I've got a jaw-length bob now, and I'm reluctant to go any shorter because I don't know how the curl will react.
I noticed that my hair seemed to act more 'tame' when I was in Cuba last winter, though. I could air-dry it, and it looked all nice and wavy. I don't think it was the humidity, since it's humid where I live, anyway, so I'm wondering if it was something in the water? Who knows?!

My Mood: Points: 21,565.33 Bank: 744,770.58 Total Points: 766,335.91 | I started a thread for us curlies/wavies if anyone is interested. I thought it would be nice to discuss what products, hair cuts, or styles we love/hate.
I know that for me, having grown up with straight hair, it has been a very difficult adjustment in terms of finding ways to manage my hair.
Here is a link to the thread: http://www.soulcysters.net/cysters-w...styles-250888/

My Mood: Points: 1,650.84 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,650.84 | Thanks for starting the new thread Stacie!! =) That's definitely what we need: how do we deal with the new hair! =)
Thank you everyone who has responded, it's a comfort to know that I'm not alone!! =)
Personally I have the same problem as you One Hit Wonder, I have been having my hair chopped shorter and shorter but while at the stylist it looks GREAT, the next day (and every day thereafter) it looks awful, like a big woolley mess!! Although, on the ODD occasion, I think the curls curl naturally in just the right way and it looks quite cute lol =)
I hate spending much (if any) time styling it, I do really resent that. I know it won't look good if I don't style it, but I feel a bit like well I didn't ask for crazy hair so I'm going to live as if I still had straight hair... yeah I know how silly I sound ;P =) So thanks for starting the new thread Stacie =)
