Default Has your head hair gotten curlier??

Hi!

This isn't really a problem, but has anyone else's hair gotten curlier over time with PCOS??

My hair used to be pretty dead straight before I had my son (1992). I was dx with PCOS in 1993, and it seems like ever since then it has slowly but surely gotten curlier and curlier! I don't know whether it's due to post-pregnancy or PCOS. I thought it might have something to do with increased testosterone levels?? It's been thinning a bit for ages now too.

The first time it really hit me, so to speak, was about 5 years ago when my hairdresser dried my hair with a diffuser with my head upside down and I sat upright and it was like 80s poodle perm on my head!! Now I don't even need to use a diffuser or have my head upside down!...

I asked my newer hairdresser about it and she said it was probably because I used to have long hair, but that's just not true, even when I cut it short it was still straight. :/
Nowadays, if I grow my hair longer (I usually have it just below shoulder height) it just goes wavey-flat on top and curly at the ends, which just adds unwanted bulk to my face.

Am I alone with my weird hair?

The same thing happened to me. However, do you have dry hair? Taking proper medication and actually taking care of my hair actually fixed the problem. Make sure your hair strands are properly moisturized.

Thats so weird because I was just talking about this a couple of days ago. I always had long straight hair when I was little. It was very straight, no wave or anything. After I had my son (6 years ago) my hair has gradually gotten wavier and wavier. I know its not dry or anything, I condition and try to keep my hair really healthy since I color it and all. Its just really weird how its changed over the past few years. Its not curly its just nice and wavy, makes for good "beach" hair. I do know that when I was pregnant my hairdresser commented on my hair growing in darker and it has gotten ALOT darker. I think it has to do with pregnancy. A friend of mine's mother had blond hair when she was young and after she had her first child her hair grew in almost black. She has beautiful dark hair now but itsn't that so crazy!

The hormones will do it. I had curls as a kid and then my hair went comletely straight during puberty. When I was 18 it went curly again. Now it fluctuates between sort of wavy and mostly curly every few years.

My hair is getting curlier with age too I do beleive.... I use a flat iron everyday!! It's never been real straight on its own .. but two kids and many years later I seem to be much curlier ...

But I have another werid hair thing .. my hairdressers over the years have commented on these very kinky / curly short hairs on top of my head ... only few but they stood out because they were so different.. Hard to see on top of my head i just kinda was like .. .whatever ... Well now I have noticed them on my DD's head!!! She is 8 ... I hope PRAY it's not PCOS related! they are bizzare hairs ... picture a zig zag continueing perfectly for about 3-4" .... /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ kinda thing ... LOL a little more curved though!

It may not be pregnancy related because it happend to me and I've never been pregnant. I had stick straight hair (always had thin hair, but a lot of it) and when I got to be about 13, my hair started getting wavy... then about 17 it become quite curly. I'm 25 now and to this day I have curly ringlets. My hair is down to my butt, and I haven't had short hair since age 18, but I think it would go SUPER curly if I cut it, and it wasn't so weighed down. I love it, and get comments all the time on how lucky I am to have natural curls!

How weird!!!!!! My hair used to be REALLY straight! it used to look like i had sued straightening irons on it but i hadn't. An now i do have a wave in it lol. I don't know whether it's cos my mum has a natural wave to hers and it's been passed on to me or if it is something to do with PCOS.

I was going to ask this same question a while ago and thought i was crazy, lol. I have noticed the same thing, I have always had a wave in my hair, and my mom has tight ringlets, i was always glad i didnt have hair like hers, until i was about 18, and my hair just kind of sprung up! And it is like the zig zags, and even difficult to straighten with an iron. Thats so weird that so many of us have that.

I think this is an actual symptom of PCOS I believe. My hair was always stick straight, but I noticed before I was diagnosed that it started getting curlier and curlier. Here I thought it was sheer will power because I wanted curly hair but didn't want to get a perm!

Once I got on the Met it started calming down a little bit, but I still have some kinky spots that drive me nuts. I did just recently go to a top notch salon though, for the first time in ages, and they did a cut that not only made my hair look longer (don't ask me how that happened but my DH was thrilled) but also seemed to tame it down. That and $35 bottle of magic hair care product But it was worth it!

Lol, an i've just noticed a product for curly hair in the advertisement at the bottom lol!. I hate mine cos like Shejayd it's hard to straighten with irons an it drives me nuts! It won't curl fully an it won't straighten GRRR lol. Also my scalp is terrible! always flaky an itchy, an it's worse when my skin goes like that too.

Wow, I had no idea this was PCOS related. Mine has gone from board-straight to wavy over the past few years also. If I dry it, it still comes out pretty straight, but if it air dries, it almost looks like a body wave. So strange!

SO WEIRD. Yesterday my boyfriend asked me if maybe straightening my hair would get rid of the wildness. And I was like "straighten it? It's already flat as a board!" He gave me the weirdest look. I went into the house and looked in a mirror and low and behold- WAVES! Shows how much attention I pay to my appearance. LOL. I'm totally not complaining, I've always wanted curly hair like my mom. Ironically though my brother always had straight hair as a child, but curly as a teenager. And now that he's 18, he's lost most of his curl. What a weird world we live in.

Oh and I'm trying to grow my hair out longer. So it's not because it's short that it's getting curly.
