I have been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease. I am waiting for more blood work to see if I am also hypo thyroid. I also have a large "nodule" on my thyroid. I go for a scan and biopsy next week. I was scared to death of cancer at first, but now know it's very rare. I will most likely end up on meds, synthroid I assume. I have family history of Graves Disease, hypo, hyper and some ended up on radioactive iodine to kill of the thyroid completely. I guess I was wondering what the chances are this is all linked to PCOS. The same family side with thyroid has a few likely PCOS'ers also. Thanks

They say that there is a correlation between PCOS and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I know that I have both.

I also have PCOS and Hashimoto's Disease. My mother had both but, we knew about her hypo but not her PCOS.

PCOS causes some imbalances with estrogen... estrogen binds to thyroid hormone and the presence of estrogen in your body stimulates your thyroid to produce more hormone to compensate.. it's a fairly delicate balance. So when the estrogen levels are whacked, your thyroid levels probably are going to be too. After a while of this, the thyroid sorta craps out and gets sick... the constant stress wears it out. It is NOT a hardy organ.
