Default Hashimoto's and hairloss

I've just come back from my endo. He said that with a TSH of 4 and a high anti-TPO count (plus other symptoms) I most probably have Hashimoto's thyroiditis (I knew it already but I had never been officially diagnosed). I asked him about my terrible hairloss and he said that he doesn't think it's androgenic alopecia but an autoimmune type of hairloss. He says that could be happening because I already have one autoimmune condition . Anyone ever heard anything like that?

Anyway, he won't medicate because he doesn't think it's serious enough.

Hi

I have hashi's as well. I went for a moment where my hiar was falling out (when I first got diagnosed and started synthroid). I think where I didnt know I had a low thyroid and thyroid was being supplied again...its kinda like your body being in shock and having to adjust again. My TSH is in range (again) and when this started, I noticed that the hair loss decreased.

Thank you for your input. Maybe I too should be medicated if I want to see some decrease in my shedding. The problem is that I have a very hard time finding a doctor who will do that .:rant2:
I take selenium (for the antibodies), EPO and biotin for the time being and hope for the best.

You definitely need to find a new doctor who will medicate. Many doctors believe that hashimoto's needs to be medicated whether you are symptomatic or not, and if you're losing hair I'd suggest you ARE symptomatic. I'm sorry I can't point you to any doctors in Greece. :|
