Hi . Does anyone here have hashi`s? And if so, could you tell me about it? My thyroid does some weird things and my endo says i am an unusual case. I am beginning to think i have hashis. If so , how do you test for it and how can you tell if you have it? I thought i`d ask you girls before doing any research because you can get straight info on here.
Thanks in advance
Karen

Hiya. I just wondered how it is different to hypothyroidism and how you know if you have it.
Thanks
Karen

My endocrinologist diagnosed my Hashimoto's so that's how I know. We had discovered that my thryroid was enlarged so an ultrasound was done which revealed a growth/tumor covering most of my thryoid. A blood test confirmed that my thyroid levels were really low. The biopsy came out benign thankfully but the diagnosis based on all the lab results came back as Hashimoto's.
Here's some websites that I keep book marked. The first relates directly to Hashimoto's.
Hi. Thanks for your replys. I`m going to check out those links you gave me tomorrow and i think i`ll speak to my endo about it next time i see him. It sounds like you have been through a lot. It must have been scary not knowing if your growth was benign or not. I`m glad it worked out ok for you (except for the pcos and hashi`s of course).
Thanks again
Karen

It was frightening at first but I soon realized it's really not the end of the world. I'm actually talking w/ my new endo right now (my other one retired) about removing my thyroid completely. It's something I want to do but my DH and I are at odds about it. Good luck to you in your research.

For a correct diagnosis of hashi's you need to have elevated thyroid antibodies. It's also called autoimmune thyroiditis....essentially your body attacks your thyroid
Hi...now I am getting confused. In all my research on PCOS, I have neglected somewhat my education regarding the thyroid problems I have.
What is the difference between Hashi's ("autoimmune thyroiditidis")and "autoimmune hypothyroidism" which was the diagnosis I was given. Does one lead to the other?
I have been wondering about Hashi's for a while (it is on my list of questions to ask my endo (who is not repro, but a thyroid/diabetes/metabolism specialist).
