Default have any of you ever used olive oil for stretch marks?

Does it actually work? I read that you can put regular olive oil on your stretch marks twice a day for two weeks and it'll make them all but disappear. Has anyone ever tried this? Did it work? Oh, and did it break you out or anything like that?

I have heard from dermatologists that onced you get stretch marks there is nothing you can do about them. It is a break-down of the lower layer of your skin and the stretch mark is actually a scar. Some people say you can't prevent them either, because it is something to do with genetics and nothing to do with how much moisturizer you use or how much water you drink.

If you got them from being overweight, they will shrink as you lose weight, but they will never go away totally. They are more obvious when you have a tan, because they won't tan.

I believe olive oil and stretch marks is commonly used for pregnant women to help prevent stretch marks as the abdomen expands.

For stretch marks, I would suggest a scar/stretch mark cream. It won't totally rid you, but it really helps to fade them.

Vitamin E oil, or baby oil can help keep your skin moisturized and minimize the marks a bit. Palmers makes a cream for pregnant women/scar/stretch marks and that works well too.

I used olive oil in the shower when I was pregnant and didn't get a single stretch mark on my stomach....it's really unfortunate that I didn't think to use it on my boobs

From what I understand, stretch mark are genetic and nothing you put on your skin will keep them from appearing if you're genetically predisposed to them. That being said, I doubt olive oil would help get rid of stretch marks since they are scars. Maybe some sort of scar cream would help to make them less noticeable, but I wouldn't put too much stock in that either.

It's all about keeping the skin moisturized. If you do it and do it well even if you are genetically made up to get them you won't get them or not as badly.

Moisturizing your body makes a big difference!

the problem is... i'm already covered in stretch marks. I want to try bio oil again but it's so expensive and i have SO much surface area that I need to cover daily that that would just be outrageous to use that... I had just heard that olive oil works the same way.

Thanks for helping! I'm going to give it a try!

Ok so I know the original post was back in May so I am a little late on this one but I wanted to share my thoughts.

I have stretch marks on my stomach from losing weight and then gaining it back so quickly. I have about maybe 9 on each side of my belly button.

I simply bought vitamin e gels and just poked a hole in them with a needle and massaged the liquid in. (I also rubbed a tiny bit of palmers cocoa butter on it too afterwards) I noticed that they were beginning to fade and look as if i didnt even have any so I decided to stop using it... and about a month later, they started to appear again.

I have a bottle at home that im going to open and start using again. So I would suggest maybe vitamin e? It does work to help fade them, you just have to use it atleast twice a day especially after bath times that way your skin has time to absorb it.

Your fingers will get sticky though but just continue to rub it in and then let the excess dry for a bit because it will rub off on your clothes.

I hope this helped some.

I got stretch marks when I was only about 11; while I was going through my growth spurt. Although i was skinny throughout my teen years, I got stretch marks on my hips and butt...I guess because that's where I grew wider? Just recently I got them around my knees but that's because I've lost my once skinny body...damn.
