Default Have I got pcos?

Hi, I wonder if anyone could help me. I didn't know PCOS existed until today when someone suggested I might have it! Is it a possibility? I had chronic telogen effluvium (diffuse hairloss) for the last four years, although my health appeared to be in good shape.. iron levels ok, thyroid ok, no stress in my life etc. About 4 months ago I started taking Dianette birth control pills (which I think is the same as Diane 35.. androgen blocker). The shedding completely stopped when I started on the pill! yay! My hair is growing back thick and fast (my hair was always v thick before it fell out).
Another thing is, I've always had a lot of hair on my body.. ie in places my girlfriends don't really get it. I have to shave my legs every day to stay smooth.
I don't seem to have any of the other symptoms, I do still have a little trouble with spots, (I am 21) but that's it. What do you reckon? I'd really appreciate your views.
Thank you, Zinia xx

I would discuss this with ur dr!!! hopefully U can get a diagnosis!
It's hard to tell from the symptoms I guess but they do sound like a pcos culprit!

I am awaiting an appointment with the doc. The more I read up on pcos though the more I think I am overreacting.. Maybe I just have an oversensitivity to testosterone? Who knows. I'll check it out. Thankyou for replying so quickly xx

I'm not a doctor, but i've been living with PCOS for almost 7 years now and I must say i started out with very few symptoms. I always had irregular periods but that was it. then at 21 (i'll be 26 in April and dx'd at 19) i gained 40 pounds out of the blue and started get hair on my face chin stomach and eventually a little on my chest. i did weight watchers and went from 188lbs to 148lbs in 5 months and stayed on the pill which helped with the hair growth and made my period regular. now i'm TTC so i'm on Metformin XR and i don't know what reaction my body will have to it but i'm hoping that I don't gain weight or get hairy again.

Go to a reproductive endo because regular GYN's sometimes over look woman with PCOS. I suffered since i was 14 and wasn't dx'd until 19. If what you have is PCOS you have a family of Cysters who will stand by you thruogh it all, if you don't have it make sure your Dr. takes care of your condition properly. Keep us posted.

good luck,

Danielle
