Question Have Q's on domestic adoption

My husband and I are just starting this process. We received an informational brochure on foster to adoption in Utah yesterday. I know that every state is different but we are probably going to adopt outside of Utah anyways and I need help from my cysters!

First my husband is worried that we will not be approved or accepted to do this based on this small phrase in the brochure "...must be in a lasting relationship". My husband has been divorced 2 times and I have been once. Believe me when I say that we both got divorces for good reasons. His first one he was 19 and the woman went crazy and stabbed him. His second cheated on him and my ex is a recovering alcoholic. We love each other very much and have been married for 4 1/2 years. Also he has a charge on his record for writing a bad check back when he was 20.

Oh please help me will any of this look bad?

Also we are looking at adopting a sibling group. We would be able to support up to 3 children. Have any of you done this already and how did it work for you? We are scared that we won't have the love necessary to help them through all of this.

Thanks,
DeeAnn

hi deann, i posted a reply but its not showing up so here goes again. we are adopting from the oregon state foster system. i don't think those things are going to affect you. they want to be sure the child is going into a stable, loving home now.as long as there are no convictions for violent crimes and your family is stable and loving and you can support the child/children. they will ask about your past to make sure all issues are resolved. they will also do a criminal records check, so be really forthright about your past. what i would do is call and make an appt. with a state adoption worker and tell them the issues you are concerned about and see what they say. you have been marrried for 4.5 years that is a lasting relationship. check out www.happymomanna.com it is a group of mostly adoptive moms who adopted thru their state. they are very knowlegeable any friendly. hope to see you there! let me know if you have any questions!
