People can have what is known as a "Paradoxial Reaction" to a medication. It's not all that uncommon, and there's even warnings on some OTC cold and allergy medications (especially for children) about this. For example, I've known someone who would get wired when she took Ny-Quil for goodness sakes! It can happen the other way around as well, where an ex-boyfriend's mother could use Sudafed as a sleeping pill as it would knock her out cold.
It may not be the issue, but it is a common one and I thought I'd let you know!
