I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (auto-immune hypothyroidism). My mom has it as well and also has Reynaud Phenomenon. My sister has Grave's Disease (auto-immune hyperthyroidism) and my brother has Juvenile or Type 1 Diabetes as well as Hashimoto's Disease. The only other family member we know of with a diagnosed auto-immune disease is my maternal grandmother. She has vitaligo. If you have an auto-immune disease it is important to keep in mind that you inherit the ability for your body to attack itself...no the disease itself. I found that so intriguing when I learned it. Visit www.aarda.org for more info.

Vertigo isn't auto-immune that I know of but Vitaligo is. The sound almost exactly the same, but Vitaligo affects skin pigmentation. Check out a brief description of it as well as all other auto-immune diseases on www.aarda.org

I have thyroiditis. No one else in my family does unless it is undiagnosed. I had an aunt that died before I was born from complications with Crohn's Disease.

Just dropped by to say Polls like this are silly, because only people with a history of, or think they have an autoimmune disorder are likely to come into the thread to vote.

I almost passed it by myself, but then thought I better stop by to weigh in on the "no auto-immune disorder" list. Comes from working on medical research studies, I can't stand bad numbers, lol.

Threads discussing the possible connection are awesome, but just a gentle reminder to take the poll results with a grain of salt.

Default poll missing an option

hi, I have been diagnosed with several autoimmune diseases including hypothyroid, vitaliago, and rosacea. Also have autoimmune-like sensitivities to wheat and sun exposure.

Additionally many of my family members have autoimmune diseases. There is no option for yes I have an autoimmune disease AND close family member do too.

I believe it was the weight I gained from hypothyroidism that triggered my PCOS symptoms. Sometimes I get upset that they didn't properly treat my hypothyroidism for ten years (I was underdiagnosed for 10 years and continued to gain weight during that time). There is definately a connection whether direct or indirect.

Nan

I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in July 07, and now have to have IVIG treatments because my platelets keep dropping. Also history of DVT in Aug 08. I think all of this links back to the UC but still doing more research.
