Default Have you ever used BCP to 'jump start' AF?

I haven't had AF in about a yr now, and I have seen ladies use BCP, like they would Provera.

Have any of you tried this? what did you do? and how long does it take for AF to arrive?

My gyno started me on bcp (femcon fe) to help jumpstart my period. I was using Provera, but she thought the femcon fe would help me more in the long run.

It took about 2 weeks for AF to arrive, after starting the bcp. My first period with that lasted for about 2 weeks though! =(

BCP works by building up the hormones in your system so when you stop taking the active pills that have the hormones in them, your body freaks out and starts AF, However it's not a true AF. It's only an AF induced due to the hormones being taken away. I did that to straighten out my body after my miscarriage because AF was messed up and super painful ( as in Tylenol-3 did nothing). However you do need to take into consideration that everyone has a different biochemistry and will have different effects on medication.
I remember taking birth control when I missed my period for 4 months when I was 15. It did jumpstar AF, but then I went a good 3 months without AF after going off the BCP. That's when I was diagnosed with PCOS.

Live, Tink, and Stars - Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. So far I am half way thru the pack Lo Ovral, and lost the 10 lbs gained during the summer....I was afraid the BC would do the opposite....but I also have had weight loss with BC before when I was on Alesse...so I am happy at the moment. Decided to stay on it 3 months....then go back to TTC. My ticker is correct on my weight. It would be nice to lose the weight I gained, since the day I met DH. I think it was 6 months after I met him, that I was off the pill...and the weight came back on... I thought 3 months would give my body enough time to dissolve cysts....due to it's on break from trying to work. Thanks again!
