Have you noticed anything different since starting met. ?
I was just diagnoised with pcos on 10-1-04. I felt i had this for a few years. I have been bleeding for 3 months and new something was wrong... The dr. said it was probably because I didnt ovulate. Just wondering if you have noticed a change in anything since starting met...Like weight loss, regular periods, less anxiety/depression, pregnancy, ovulating? If so how long before you noticed? Thanks for all the help.
Since I started Met, I can tell that I have less anxiety. I believe that I am O'ing now. It also helped me have shorter cycles then before, so it did help with AF.

Husband (37)
Son (2 1/2 year)
Once I started Glucophage XR I lost some weight, started ovulating and 3 months after starting it got pregnant and carried that baby to term
Since the birth of my son the Gluc doesn't seem to be working as well so I had to go on BCP's to let my ovaries rest since they were covered in cysts.

The met helped a lot, but it was limited until I got my diet and exercise all panned out. My first yr on met I just took the drug (no dietary changes) and exercised inconsistently, and I lost about 13 pounds in 12 months. My bloodwork was still really high and my periods were coming, but still really irregular (28-60+ days). When I started the IR diet and did cardio consistently, it really made a difference. I still lost my weight slow (took 2 more years to lose the next 50 pounds), but my bloodwork started improve, my periods were 28-32 days like clockwork and within 6 months my labs were normal for the first time in 7 years.
So my experience has been that met works best with the lifestyle changes to help us.
Hope it helps!

I couldn't respond to your poll because, while I've experienced improvements on met, they don't fit into any of your categories.
After 9 months of met, my testosterone (total and free) has dropped down into normal ranges (first time ever in my non-BCP life)!
My cycles and ovluations are still irregular becuase my doctors have now discovered I may have an adrenal problem. My DHEAS is now elevated, which may signal Late Onset Congental Adrenal Hyperplasia. I'm undergoing further testing.

Within the first month of starting met, I lost 10lbs (of the 30ish that I needed/wanted to lose). Like Christyz, I was exercising regularly and made some dietary changes.
I also started ovulating (I was ovulating 1-2 times a year before starting Met), although it was a late ovulation -- between cd28 and 39. I ovulated every cycle since I was on met.
I couldn't tolerate the side effects of met very well, so I switched to GlucXR after 3 months, but continued to have good results. After switching to GlucXR, I had more energy and felt like myself. I also stopped craving sweets and bad carbs -- in fact now there are many foods that I think taste too sweet (which is a good thing!).
Since Kiko and I were ttc, I decided to give met/GlucXR about 6 months before moving on to clomid, but I never made it to that point -- I found out last week that I am pregnant just from the help that met/Gluc gave me. It has really made a difference in how I feel and how my body works!

The first month, really fast compared to some here, I lost ten pounds without trying, felt more in control of my emotions/depression/anger, had less yeast (I tend to get a lot of infections down under), started to see a temperature pattern forming that was more normal, my blood pressure went down ten digits in the top part (systolic?), and I simply "felt better". During the second month, I had my first period in 15 months. To my utter amazement, I had another one in about 36 days or so. As all of my symptoms continued to get better, I had longish but normal cycles for the first time ever. After several months, my doc told me I needed to cut out the carbs. When I did, the eggs started poppin, and I got pregnant right away. I agree that lifestyle really helps this out. We aren't working against it that way.
Best wishes,
Sheri

I don't have a good response because I've never taken Met for too long.
I started on 5/22, had to stop taking it between 6/12 and 6/16 because I was hospitalized for an appendectomy and my surgeon didn't want me takign anything he didn't prescribe. However, I still ovulated when I got home (I did take Clomid days 5-9 plus Metformin, and had my appendectomy on day 11). Found out I was pregnant on 7/5 and stopped taking Met per my doctor's instructions. Had blighted ovum and miscarriage in mid to late August. I will take Met through my next pregnancy, should I be so lucky.
Started taking Met again 9/17, after ovulating on my own after a D&C 8/26. Had AF 9/29 and yesterday (Day 8), my body started showing signs of gearing up to ovulate again - I would think the Met is helping.
My worst side effect is that I seem to have major abdominal bloating from taking the Met. Some of that may be related to my appendectomy and my recent pregnancy (I was just starting to get a pregnancy pooch when I m/c'd.) I'm pretty sure it's bloating and not true weight gain because it's firm and not flabby, but it's driving me nuts!

I've had bad reactions from met, but my doc doesn't care. I have awful abdominal swelling and keep gaining weight. Been on it almost 6 months. No help with ovulation.
