Well, my cyst stopped shrinking. It started out at nearly 20 cm across. Yeah, TWENTY centimeters across!
It's now about 16 cm. Since it hasn't shrank much, I decided to just have it out now becuase it's making me miserable and really keeping me from being productive and enjoying life much.
The doctor is gonna just remove it in one piece. He's almost completely sure it isn't cancerous, but there is always a slim chance that it is. So, he doesn't want to drain it.
I should be in the hospital only for a few days then back to feeling better than I have in a very long time within a couple of months. My doctors think that this cyst is behind a lot of back pain, fatigue, and other problems I have been having.
The interesting thing is that neither my PCOS doctor or the gyne-oncologist who is treating me for the cyst believe that it is necessarily related to PCOS, but rather just one of those things women sometimes get.
As far as I know, everything else is healthy. And he is going to try and preserve all my organs. But depending on what he finds on the right ovary (where the cyst is) it may have to come out. Honestly, he could remove it all and I wouldn't be too upset (childfree by choice, not planning on using any of it for reproduction.). But we shall see what happens Tuesday...

I had a similar experience about 10 years ago -- large cyst (6-7lb). I did lose part of my ovary and the tube on that side. Not sure how this will be for you, but I have a long scar down the front of my torso (no big deal for me as I've *never* worn a two-piece bathing suit!) I did experience major fatigue before the removal -- after I started to heal, I was amazed at how much better I felt!! The worst part for me was the waiting and anxiety pre-surgery. If you have questions, PM me!!
