My miscarriage started on Monday. I bled really heavy Monday night and all day Tuesday. It is finally starting to slow down, and I don't have any more cramping so I think I'm almost done. But I do have a question.
All of the blood was very dark, almost black and tar like. There was never any red blood like when I have AF.
Is this normal? Is this because the fetus had died several days earlier? Or is this something I should be worried about and may effect future pregnancies. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
~Shelby

I'd call your doctor to be sure but when I m/c in 2002 the blood was VERY dark and thicker then normal AF. I'm not sure if this is 'normal' or not-I never asked.
I'm VERY sorry for your loss(((HUGS))).

I'm sorry for your loss. Have you spoken with your Dr about what to expect with your m/c? I think it varies depending on how far along you are. I was almost 6 wks (but didn't m/c until 8w4d) and this is what happened to me:
Afternoon:
Af-like cramps, bright red spotting
Evening:
Intense cramps, very large clots. Clots were very dark, almost purple/grey/black.
Night:
Lessening of cramps, continued clots but more dark red (similar to, but larger than, AF clots)
I cramped with occasional dark red clots for about a week, slowing down to spotting and now nothing.
During the actual m/c, no bright red blood. Just before and after

I can't answer your question, because one of my m/c was a chemical and the other was a blighted ovum so there was no "problem" of a fetus, know what I mean? I do agree with pp about calling and checking with your Dr, for peace of mind if nothing else.
I did reply to your falling beta post, and was very sorry to see this one about the m/c. I was pulling for you and hoping that the numbers would have reversed. Take care of yourself and again, I am sorry about your loss.
Shelby, Sweet cyster, Im so sorry for your loss. I pray you are able to gain the strength & courage to move forward. ***Hugs & Prayers***

Thank you to everyone for your kind words and thoughts. I wish the same to you. It's unfortunate that we have to go through this, but at least this community board makes it not quite so overwhelmingly lonely.
Amdam: I'm so sorry for your loss also. While we weren't very far along, I know for me it was quite a disappointment, and I'm sure it was for you also.
Jules: My heart breaks for you and your babies. I can't imagine how hard this must be for you. I'm keeping you in my prayers.
Thank you again for all of your kind words and support. It's been a hard road, but we'll keep trying, and I know that I will eventually have a family.

I thought I would post on here because I was on the september thread with you and Amdan, we were about the same EDD. My symptoms were the same as yours...
For those of you on here who just m/c did the bleeding stop yet? Its still going for me...blackish red. I had to get that needle at the hospital because Im O neg too! First you miscarry, then you get blood work, then you get an U/S where you see the emtpy uterus and THEN you get a needle. Im terrified of needles but the doctor said its important to my future babies!
I'm so sorry for you. I know what you mean about everything you have to go through. I spent a couple of evenings just crying because I needed it to be over.
For me the bleeding lasted for more than a week, but the heavy bleeding was done in about 5 days. That is a lot for me since my normal AF is about 3 days.
I will say that for me, once the hormones were out of my system I did much better, which took about a week from the time I started my MC. I was still mourning the loss of my pregnancy, but I no longer had the extream mood swings. My husband was ready to take me to the doctor just for the mood swings.
I talked to my Dr. about the really dark blood, and she said that since it was so early in the pregnancy that was normal. Not exactly sure why, but at least it isn't a sign of bad things for future pregnancies.
It will take a while for your body to feel back to normal again, but it will happen.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Please let us know if you need someone to talk to.
