Default Head is Almost Bald --- Should i take BC?

I don't know what to do all i do is cry when i look in the mirror. I feel so sad. I know i'm going to lose it all. This is the worst feeling i've ever felt in my life. I kept having to cut more bangs from the back because my bangs hair kept falling out. Now i've already cut so far back that you can tell and it'll look weird if i keep cutting more and its just going bald like a mans would i can see my scalp and lots of it.

I'm seeing the endo next wk for the first time. My gyno thinks i should take birth control. Nothing ever happen with me and birth control except that i started getting hyperpigmentation spots. My gyno gave me lo estrin 24 says that their the lowest amount of hormone. Should i take them? I didnt want to before but i feel like I have nothing to lose anymore.

Will it help the hair loss or will it worsen it? I just want things to be normal again. Its so weird i think i'm going crazy sometimes. My hair looks like its better but once i wash it, it looks even thinner. This process has been going on for about a yr now.

I'm only taking evening primrose oil, saw palmetto & biotin.

you know whats what I really need to find out too.
I had a really strange reaction to 3 different bcp.when I first tried bcp one year a go I was hoping to cure my acne.I couldnt tolerate.the last one diane 35 killed me.
I had some weird rashes on my bikini area which I thought it never gonna go away.2 months later gone.
then cystc acne, hairloss and hirsutism all because of stupid pill.now they wanna put me on bcp.I can't take it simple as that.
it been 5 months I should tell you my shed is down abit.but my hair is thining and eventhough I see some regrowth its not enough to cover my front line.
my advice get your hormones checked and wait abit longer.

yeah my testosterone is at 98 now. Diabetes runs strong in both my families. Im seeing the endo for the first time i've been waiting to see him since april i might cry when i go into his office. All this is taking so long. My hairline is receding by the day. i've been measureing with my hands now its more than 5 fingers. I used to have a short forehead. Only like 3 fingers.

This is truly a nightmare. Sometimes i ask what did i do to deserve this. I wouldnt wish this upon nobody.

I'm telling you, make an appointment with a dermatologist....I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL...Its such a sucky feeling. They'll do injections of Minoxidil....I've been one time, and my hair is already growing back, and its growing in really fast.

Angry

I've been on BCP for almost five years and I don't think my hair has really grown back in but I think it stopped falling out so badly. It seems to have stabilizied. I'm still very very self-conscious by what I consider my bald spot. I don't know if people are kind or what, but everyone tells me that don't see what I'm talking about. My hairdresser can tell it's thin though. I hate it. Of all the symptoms I have I think the alopecia is the worst. I don't like any of the other symptoms either but I feel like I have more control over them. The scalp hair loss is just there for the world to see and I often want to cry too!

I am also using Nioxin products - the cleanser (shampoo), scalp therapy, scalp treatment, and follicle booster. And while sometimes I feel like it's not really working and I'm still losing lots of hair, if I stop using it, then I lose tons more hair so I see that it is helping at least somewhat. Nioxin is expensive but worth it to me. A friend of mine says there is a cheaper brand similar to that at Sally Beauty Supply. I've never tried it.

I am also using a generic of Rogaine - minoxidil - at the suggestion of my dermatologist. I've been using for over 5 months and I honestly do not see any new growth. I figure I'll give it to my next visit with her in 6 months and see what she says. My RE advised that I keep using the minoxidil when I saw him last.

I am also on spironolactone for a few months now and I THINK that might be working.

So I don't think BCPs alone will help your hair loss but maybe with a combination of other treatments.

Good luck!

Current meds
Spironolactone since July 2009
Some type of BCP since March 2005
Currently Loestrin generic equivalent (Microgestin or Junel)
