Does anyone else have problems with migraines or severe headaches?
I always got pretty bad headaches, but they got better for a little while after I started on Yaz and Synthroid, but now they're back, and pretty awful. Sometimes they don't go away for a couple of days.
When they got better on BCP, I assumed they might be caused by horomones, so I was just wondering if anyone else had the same problem, and maybe had something that helped.
I get headaches too.. acutally I have one right now lol. From the time I was 7 till about 15ish I had horrible migranes and then they seemed to go away. Now I am getting I headaches again for the past year or so. I thought it was my contacts so I stopped wearing them and then I stopped meds (not a good idea). I got my eyes checked in the spring and got a new RX and things were good for a while and then in the early fall i started to get blurred vision so I went back to the eye dr and got another new rx (good thing for flexible spending!) So the only two things I think are causeing my headaches are stress and/or hormones. Those damn hormones.

I always get migranes like that! I always thought (& was told by my dentist) that it was my wisdom teeth...had them taken out & still get the nauseating headaches...I am reading a book my s.i.l. loaned me today & found that they're caused by an increase in one of our hormone levels...(don't remember which ones...it's in that book something about Savvy women & PCOS) I get them so bad that sometimes I have to sit by the toilet, if you catch my drift!
I'm headed to the doc next Friday to get tested since my birth mother had PCOS really bad & I have most of the symptoms listed in the book...hope it's not too late & I might be able to have kids some day!
I have migraines that occur if I eat something that triggers one (chocolate is a big no-no for me) and it's a given that I will have one right before or during my period. A couple years ago I thought I was having migraines that were lasting 3-4 days at a time and went to the doctor and he checked my blood pressure and it was a dreadful 183/151. I'm now on meds for it. If you haven't had your pressure checked lately, it'd be a good idea to do so.

Hi!
Fellow migraine sufferer here! I have had migraines since I was about 15 and they are hormone related.
For me, they were terrible when I was on BCP, and got somewhat less severe when I stopped BCP.
A few things that my headache doctor has done/suggested for Hormone-Related Migraines:
1) Daily moderate aerobic exercise (not sure why this helps, but it really does.) Unfortunately, to get the benefit, you really have to be dilligent. EVERY DAY.
2) If your migraines are on a specific day of your cycle (Day 4 for me...) you can try using a bio-identical estrogen patch (like Vivelle) on Days 2-5 of your cycle. This helps manage dropping estrogen levels, which can trigger migraines in some women.
3) Also, if you try taking 300mg of Ibuprofen 2x/day for the few days before your period up until Day 4 or 5, this helps some women whose migraines are caused by prostaglandins.
4) Some women also take a longer acting Triptan (migraine med) like Frova when they wake up on the day they expect their migraines, to try and abort it before it starts.
Just some ideas for you to explore. I had unpredicatable migraines until I started taking Metformin to treat my PCOS, and now I only have the one that occurs on Day 4, which I am trying to manage with the bio-identical estrogen patch.
HTH! Good Luck. Migraines stink.
Amanda

I get headaches all the time. I used to think it was because I was hungry, tired, mad, or sinuses. But it was all because of hormones I think. They seem to go away once I lay down. I haven't taken anything for them, but I know I should because it seems like they just get worse and worse, depending on my mood. Does that make any sense. I really don't know what if anything can help.
I have horrible Migraines. Have had them since I was about 10. I have tried every med you can think of. Triptans (imitrex, axert, and some other ones) are great for during an attack. But, I was sick of waiting for the migraine to appear. I went to a neurologist, and he prescribed inderal LA. It has done wonders and is safe during pregnancy(which was important to me). This drug does multi duty for me because it also keeps my blood pressure under control. That is what is usually prescribed for. It is a beta blocker. I have had a couple breakthrough headaches, but not like before. excedrin fixes them now.
WOW i love this site I have been having horrible headaches that seem to run down the back of my neck and my neck gets stiff and it hurts to even have my eyes open or talk laugh...some days i just want to lay down and just close my eyes....Its not due to my period since i haven't had one in like a year.....which the doctor has me on meds now that i take for 10 days and then within 2 weeks i am to start my menstral.....YAY....I never thought i would happy to have a mentral.....
