Default Headaches

Hello ladies! It seems like every week or so, I get excruciating headaches that hurt so bad it makes me nauseous. The light hurts, every sound hurts.. I've tried taking every type of pain reliever and talked to my doctor about my medicines. I'm on the lowest dose birth control prescribed for PCOS but it doesn't help. Days like this make me want to stay in bed all day, not exercise, and unfortunately make bad food choices. I feel like these days are out of control! My question is does anyone else suffer from something like this, and if so, what can be done about it?

Default headaches

I have exactly the same problem. I am 19 years old and sophmore in college with a very heavy courseload. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17 and have been on birth control ever since. I have really bad headaches to that make me feel nauseous like i want to throw up, i cant look at anything, i cant lie down, im just in pain. My used to take ibuprofen which would take up to 8 to work, then i tried excedrin migraine which worked for a little while, now my doctor prescribed me the generic for midrin( a medication for migraine and tension headaches). Does anyone else have this same problem and what makes it go away for feel better?

I'm a migrainuer as well as a cyster, so I see a neurologist. It's really helped, she's got me on a preventative medication, and I haven't had a migraine bad enough to need my rescue med since early August (a personal best, I'd been making it a week or so previously). Plus, she's the first doc to mention PCOS, and got me researching and pushing for a diagnosis.

Typical migraine (not that there is a typical, but it can include): the 'worst' headache you've ever had, light/sound/scent sensitivity, pain on one side of your head/face, throbbing splitting pain, a 'sinus' headache that just keeps getting worse, aura-ie light or visual hallucinations, tunnel vision

A good resource for migraine info: http://www(dot)healthcentral(dot)com/migraine/

Just in case there are restrictions about web links, I've put the . as (dot) Hope the info can help you!

Thumbs up

Thanks for the website, Sara.
I also have horrible headaches that come in more often than they should.
At the first sign of it, I usually pop an Anacin or take some Goody powder, which does the trick.
If none of those are around & I have some time on my hands,
I just lay down & take a g00d nap.

I get headaches every 3-4 days. They are so horrible, they feel like migraines... I take 3 aspirin when it happens. It takes very long for it to work, and it doesn't work for a long time. But it helps me a little.

I've had them occasionally, but they haven't been (touch wood) a regular feature of my life. I hope they won't be!

When they did happen, I found sleeping them off was the only option. Although getting to sleep was difficult, I felt normal-ish when I woke up.

I have the same thing. Mine are daily all day, although they are worst in the afternoon. They also hurt down into my face. I actually had an MRI yesterday and they are referring me to a neurologist. I don't think they will find anything on the MRI, but can't hardly take the headaches anymore. I try really hard not to take anything, as I don't want to rebound headaches, but by about 4 I can't handle it anymore. I really hope we can get relief soon. I also wondered if my Yasmin was cauing mine. Maybe I will have to quit them and see what happens. I will try anything to get rid of them..

daniellej- make sure that the Neuro you're seeing is one who has specialized in migraines and headaches. It can make a big difference to see someone who is very used to dealing with headaches, compared to an average neurologist, who may not know anything more than your primary doc does.

I used to have headaches all the time! Everyday when I got home from school I would have an awful headache! Now I don't attend school anymore and in most most periods I try to be healthy... and I don't have headaches so much anymore... actually quite rarely... and when I do have them, it seems they mostly occur after having had a sugar-freakout the day before or during the day... so I'm sure unhealthy eating, not enough water and excersie caused it for me...so, it's a bit of a problems that headahces always seems to cause one to make bad food choices :S it only adds fuel on the fire! It could also be the pills you're taking... pills often have that side-effect, unfortunately! :S Hope you get better!
