Question Headaches part of diabetes?

I've done some research but see nowhere where it says that if you are borderline diabetic or diabetic, you get headaches. I have been having them and they've gotten worse. Does Diabetes cause headaches? Doesn't it have to do with our blood sugar being low, then eating something sweet, I'm sorry, I'm so sick right now, but wanted to ask this question. Man I'm a picture perfect woman of health *sigh*
It's gonna be ok cBg!! Chill out! lol

This is a good question - wish I had an answer. For me, I just assume that my morning headaches are related to my high blood pressure. Especially since the dr says my glucose is fine. . .

Found this for you....

"You may have a common blood sugar imbalance called "carbohydrate sensitivity". Refined carbohydrates are the major culprits. They convert quickly to sugar, and create a rush that can manifest as tiredness, headaches, itchiness, dizziness and other symptoms."

I thought the same thing, I know people with high bp get headaches, my mother gets them bad, poor thing. Do you take a beta blocker? Interesting your glucose is fine, yet you get the a.m. headaches...

Cyster Shiphrah you are so helpful! Thanks for that. So I guess I'm on my way with the Fortamet to help this if it is indeed pre diabetes that is accompanying PCOS in me, killing two birds with one stone?

Now my next step is to get that GTT ASAP!!

I was given nothing for the BP, which bothers me b/c my mom has peripheral artery disease and there is no one on her side of the family who doesn't have high BP. I'm trying really hard to lose more weight and cut out any unnecessary salt, but so far that hasn't really helped.

And the fasting glucose was fine, but I still suspect that it's insulin resistance, maybe just in the early stages or something - they didn't even look at that.

The good news is that so far, I'm doing fine on the Alesse, so I guess that's something anyway.

Dayna, so glad that Allesse is working for you, that is good. No, great! What benefits r u getting from it, if you don't mind sharing?
However, are you having your physician monitor your bp? Or is it ok currently?
((sending you the strength to lose the weight)) you're not alone here

Also, why not ask them to do a test for IR?

Just some thoughts....

be good to you

Well, I'm only on day 4 of Alesse, so we'll see what benefits I get when it's time for AF. But so far, I'm not having the weepy, wild mood swings I had with Kariva & the Nuvaring. Also, I've had for months, a chronic ache in my lower right side - that hasn't been there at all today. Maybe it's the start of a trend!!! Dr. isn't too interested in my BP, so I'm having the health teacher at school check it every morning, just to give me some idea of how it looks. All this week, it's been high normal, which is an improvement - so we'll see. . .

And I did ask them to test for IR, and all she wanted to do was a fasting glucose. Said she'd consider further action if there was a problem with that, which there wasn't. But if I understand correctly, if it's IR, my glucose probably would be normal. Is that correct?

I may not get a PCOS diagnosis, but I plan to hang around here either way - I love the supportiveness of everyone I've "met" here!!

I have been DX with diabetes and then PCOS. They are having trouble controling it. I go to the doctor today for PCOS check up. i'm trying to lose the weight but its been very hard. I lose 10 and gain 15. well i have miagraines every two weeks or so. they can't find the culprit behind the miagraines. but i think they have something to do with my hormones being out of wack. everyone just hang in there. things will be alright. thats what i have to keep telling myself. well have to run hope this helps in anyway.

I am not diagnosed officially, I am still waiting on blood tests. I have both headaches and optical migraines. I was put on Topamax by my family Doctor for the daily migraines prior to the consideration of PCOS by my GYNO. It is excellent with my migraines, also helps me with appetite control, fatigue, depression and I now sleep all night again! An added bonus - one of the many possible side affects is significant weight loss. I have had no side affects after 2 months of use. Ask your doctor if it's right for you. My blood pressure had been on the rise prior to the meds but still remains well within normal range.

Another thing to do is try the Atkins Diet, the first two weeks of induction is tough, but I have lost 10 pounds each time I have done it, so I know the payoff is there if I stick with it. I have felt much better once I reduced my carbs. It's really hard to give up the sugar but for your Physical and mental well being it's well worth it!! If I were left alone to eat what I wanted it would have been pb&j, popcorn, bagels and fruit, anything starchy, but I am happy on the Atkins diet eating lots more egg and meats now! Typically you eat less packaged foods while on Atkins thus reducing your salt intake and hopefully keeping your blood pressure at a healthier level. (After Induction period on Atkins you can expect a normal loss of 2 lbs per week and your body will thank you for it.)

Thumbs up

Dayna, how are you doing? we love you here too, hope you stick around and do keep us posted on how you're doing.
I lost 30 on Topamax I got the tingling in my right foot though--weird lol At one time I believe the FDA was going to market Topamax as another 'diet medication'...never became of anything though. You sound good Daisy2, keep up the good work It gets so overwhelming sometimes as to what 'diet' to follow, I haven't had much of an appetite on some days, but then last night I ate a huge bowel of lasagna noodles--go figure lol

CystsBgone

Can I ask?? Did they take you off the Topamax then? I've had the foot tingling only twice, but I feel so good otherwise that I don't want to stop the medication. My hands have tingled for years anyway so what's another little foot tingle right?

It really helps me function at a normal level and I dread having to quit. Going back to the way things were is just not an option for me. If it were more often or more painful, I would consider alternate medications of course......thanks for your input. And yes, I love it here too!!

I take topamax (two hundred mgs twice a day) for a chronic pain issue. And it's helped my tingling and pins and needles. Mine's due to spinal neuropathy.

Take care

Wink blood levels of glucose and IR

i just wanted to comment on IR and glucose levels: i'm a insulin dependent diabetic and i'm IR also. so i think you can go either way with the IR.

sorry i didn't see this to respond sooner - i survived my first AF on Alesse!! The day before I started, the cramps were horrible, but AF itself was really light and not painful at all. Still craved everything in sight, but that's not unusual for me. Definitely loving these pills.

the bp is variable - some days it's high (recently hit 143/97), others it's normal or close to it (one day last week - 118/82). I'm drinking my water - which has made me gain weight - exercising 30 mins a day and eating better. Hopefully when school is out in a couple of weeks, I can really get it under control.

I suffered from severe headaches and migraines for quite a while before being diagnosed with PCOS and hyperinsulinemia. I started glucophage and the IR diet and I now very rarely have bad headaches. Headaches can be caused by fluctuating glucose/insulin levels and the multitude of hormone issues that we experience.
