Default health insurance for the independent

I am just curious if there is anyone out there that has found an affordable health insurance coverage with maternity independently?

I'm not sure I understand the question - do you need a health insurance policy that has a maternity rider separate? We have anthem bc/bs of KY and have individual policies. The maternity rider was not worth getting as it added $4-500/month to the policy cost! It's ridiculous. I had individual insurance in MS as well and had the option of purchasing maternity coverage separately as well

HTH!

My question is did anyone have insurance independent (not through work) that did cover maternity without it being sky high? Is there anyone who has had a baby w/o maternity coverage? Just wondering what the cost would be roughly without the maternity coverage.

Sorry; I misunderstood I wish I could help you but I don't know. We've always paid for individual health insurance and I have had medicaid for both pg's, while continuing the private insurance policy throughout. Hope you get the answer you're looking for.

Hi Khenders

I went through soooo much with drs prior to getting my dx of PCOS that it kinda turned me off to the whole health care system (even tho I work for it *lol*) Sooo with that being said I rarely go to the dr--Except for my yearly physical and tb screening which is paid for through my job and my yearly gyn which I pay out of pocket for as the clinic I go to has a sliding scale....I didn't see the need of me paying for something I wouldn't use so I declined to sign up for health insurance at work when I was eligible....Welp that was before my dreams of wanting a child...Once me and DBF decided we were going to start ttc I started looking into getting coverage...I spoke with an independent agent and he informed me that I would have to be on the plan for 12months before I was eligible for maternity coverage--all the while paying for it....It was roughly $300 a month with a $3,000 deductible....I spoke witn my benefit rep at work and was pretty much told the same thing tho the wait was 6 months....I make to much for medicaid and even if I didn't, they wanted me to take out a child support order against DBF so they could recover my medical expenses from him

Sooooo I started searching the web for alternatives and I came across www.maternitycard.com--They are not an insurance company, however, they work with drs and hospitals to help lower your medical expenses significantly--They are also backed by the better buisness buerea so it's not a crock or scam....the one time enrollment fee is $149 and it's $69 monthly if you sign up before becoming pregnant and $99 monthly if you already are pregnant...So I am going to use that in conjunction with a Health Savings Account that I'm going to set up next week....

enligh1-dwn: thats for that info. I believe the company's memebership in the bbb has been revoked. Legally, they need to remove the BBB logo from their site. Here is the site from bbb about complaints. They say they over 100% guarantee + 200, but apparently, they do not back that with everyone because some were given less than 100% refund. Here is the link http://www.centraltx.bbb.org/commonr...html?bid=53505

if they can save some money, maybe 69/mo is not much. They do have about 50 complaints.
