Default Heart Skipping Beat?

I tried a search on heartbeat and this didn't come up...

Does anyone else get a skipped beat sometimes? It's especially noticeable when I am laying down and it's quiet. It almost makes a THUD after the "skipped" beat -- like it's twice as powerful and twice as long.

My Dr said it's PACs -- Premature Atrial Contractions. But they are annoying as heck and I only started getting them in Jan 04. I am sure I would've noticed them!

What can I do about it?? My blood pressure is always normal.

I get palpitations, is that something different? It involves my heart making sudden thuds and weird stuff like that! Not too sure if its the same thing but I had to wear heart monitor for 2 days to check everything was ok, and it was and the doctor never linked it to anything although I think I get it more around time of the month. It doesn't hurt but it's really off-putting x

I think that's the same.....

Another friend of mine wore the monitor for 2 days and had the same thing, and she was fine too.

I don't remember having them much when I was pregnant for some reason.

My cousin had this. Her doctor told her to avoid caffeine. She says it hasn't happened nearly as much since she gave it up.

Do you drink a lot of sodas, tea or coffee? If so, and you gave up the caffeine while you were pregnant, that could explain why it didn't happen so much then.

Actually, I don't drink much caffeine at all. I mostly drink water and skim milk.

But I'll pay attention to that! Thanks!

Yes I have had it happened to me before and I have asked my doctor about it before and he said that it was normal if it skips a beat now and then but if it is more frequently then to let him know. I know that when it happens to me it kinda scares me because I will be just sitting there and then all of a sudden it will just skips a beat. IMOP if it happens to you often I would make appt to see your doc.

I have had this happen sometimes. I never talked to my doc about it though. It hasn't happened in a long time, but it's kinda weird and scary when it does happen.

My BF has something like it, called PVC's. His heart goes crazy out of his chest. He has to take a panic medicine and a heart medicine. It controls it pretty well.. Can you get a med to help with it?

Well, if I don't *have* to take a med, I'd rather not.

The Dr didn't seem concerned about it. I've mentioned it a few times to him..... but I'm wondering if maybe he's not being cautious enough.

I read in It's My Ovaries Stupid! that some ladies can have irregular heartbeats due to hormones. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced it like I have.

I have this too and my Dr.told me that it happens to women who have PCOS sometime. Not sure why or what causes it. They are called PVC's from what I understand Premature Ventricular Contractions. I'll try and do some research on the subject and see what I can come up with.
Good question by the way.

Hey hon, have you had your potassium level checked? If it gets low or out of whack it can play with your heart.
If you don't think your doctor is taking you seriously, find one who will.
