Ok I was diagnosed with PCOS a couple of months ago by the nurse practitioner at my gyn's office.
I went in because I got off the pill when my hubby and I got married 2/20/04 mostly because the pill makes me psycho...so I must have other issues there...but anyway, though we weren't actively trying to concieve we would be ecstatic if it happened, come on it's a baby! Well, I went in because almost a year had gone by and nothing.
So they gave me an ultrasound and blood work: FSH, LH, Prolactin, T4 Free, and TSH. And they said I have it. But that's all. They said get on the pill so that you don't get more cysts, and when you want to have a baby, stop the pill for 3 mo and then we'll put you on metformin and if that doesn't work, we'll get you on Clomid and you should be fine. BTW I'm 24 will be 25 in June will not graduate nursing school till Dec 2006 and we kind of wanted to wait till then if possible, but if it's gonna be harder to get preggo then we'd go for it now.
Was any of my blood work to check for insulin resistance?
My results were FSH: 4.4, LH: 6.3, Prolactin: 45.9, T-4 free: 1.3 and TSH: 1.24
I also have been getting this horrible feeling that I am going through early menopause, I get horrible hotflashes and I'm really lethargic. I've put on 40 lbs since high school and I'm on Weight Watchers and I'm losing so very slowly.
I'm right with you on the pill issues. I've tried quite a few of them and they all make me feel ill. I've been on the depo provera as well and that was a nightmare too.
Welcome to SC! I have had hotflashes since about age 12 or 13, so that doesn't always mean you are going thru early menopause. I have problems with fatigue, also.
For isulin resistance I was given a simple blood test after fasting before the visit. There is another test too. Anyway you would be told a simple number for your isulin. It doesn't appear to be included in your list.
As to the weight issue...I'm on weight watchers too and you might want to do the CORE plan. It's better for us PCOS ladies. Also, exercise is a big factor. Once I was on MET I got better results as well.
Good luck!!

Hello I may have a little bit of advice for you. btw i was just diagnosed myself, but i am a nurse and a personal trainer. about the hot flashes, they may not be hot flashes i was having sweating and hot flashes and as it turns out it was because my insulin levels were very high and making my blood sugar drop as low as 40 my endo recommended 5 servings of veggies a day and absolutely no refined carbs and no caffeine since i have been doing this i lost 5 lbs in one week and have not had any more symptoms. hope this can help
