Default Hello!

Hi everyone.
I've officially had PCOS for six days now (Ok, still waiting on the blood tests), and been on Diane-35's for four days. I'm only nineteen and I've never had a regular period in my life, and I always just assumed it was because I was young. I don't really have many other symtoms- need to lose a bit of weight though!
I'm really glad this site is here. I had so many questions, and my doctor (good, but horrendously busy) just kind of shoved a presciption into my hands and ushered me out.
Here's a newbie question- is one symptom of BCP's being extremely emotional? Cause I'm usually not, but today I nearly cried at work over something stupid, and I've been freaking out all night about whether or not my half-finished university degree is ever going to get me a job! This is not normal for me, but I have been under a bit of stress lately. I'm still wondering if it might be the pills. I'm kinda hoping it is the pills and I can just wait for it to go away!
Thanks,
Vanessa

Smile being emotional is normal!

being emotional is part of life! but, yes, part of having an endicrongical disorder does make us prone to depression because it's hormornal. And, yes, BCPs do contribute to depression; it can be a side effect and if it's severe you should talk to your doctor immediately! If you're doctor doesn't answer your questions...get a new one! I did and it has made a world of difference! Good luck huney, i wish you my best.

Yes, BCPs can cause all sorts of mood problems and PCOS causes horrific mood problems in some women (myself included). You may want to try a different pill. The different progestins have different effects on mood, as do the ratios of estrodial to the progestin (you want high estrodial). You might want to try to switch to Ortho Cyclen or Yasmin, which are good for PCOS. Diane is generally good for PCOS, but if it is making you depressed, you should switch. DO NOT SWITCH TO A TRI-PHASIC PILL LIKE ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN or anything with LO in the title!!!

Thanks everyone! Very helpful! I don't think this is anywhere near depression at all, but I've told a couple of friends to keep an eye on me and tell me if I start to get worse. I think it's just the adjustment.
Thanks,
Vanessa

VJP, I went through an emotional upheaveal when I was first diagnosed and put on meds. It has since evened out, but I often wondered if it was just the emotions of finding out there was something wrong, or if it was because for the first time in my life I was starting to have the correct levels of hormones in my system. I'm hoping that it levels out for you also.

Nice to meet you
