I recently registered and have been reading all the wonderful posts and information.
I am 37 and I was diagnosed with PCOS about 18 months ago. I was sent to an endo who told me to lose weight, that I was depressed and prescribed me Lexapro (I used to take Zoloft to counter panic attacks). I was about 180 pounds at the time. (I am 5'5"). After months of visits and just being told to lose weight, I stopped going because I bad that I couldn't lose the weight, in spite of daily exercise and being pretty careful with my diet.
I decided the Lexapro wasn't suiting me so went to another dr just recently who took my history. Tt turns out that she has PCOS and so do both of her daughters. She gave me so much information about PCOS and explained that weight loss is so much harder.
I am going to have some blood tests for hormones soon and depending on the results, she will probably give me Metformin. I am also taking a herbal supplement from Medi-Herb Australia called PolyFem and is specifically for PCOS. i have just started on it.
My symptoms aren't as bad as some others - I am fairly hirsute and at the moment prefer to just cover up as I can't afford waxing or lasering at the moment. My cycle is fairly regular but HEAVY. I sometimes wonder if I will bleed to death! I don't get cramping and never really have so that is one blessing. My skin is very sensitive and breaks out.
I guess my main issue is my weight. I've gained about 20 pounds in the last 6 months and I just hate it. I don't want to go out, I don't want to talk to people - I'm just so aware of how fat I am and I hate it. I'm about 200 pounds now. My feet hurt so much it's hard to walk - I take some pain relief most days so I can get on with things. I'm scared that I won't be able to lose the weight. I don't want to live like this.
Apparently my blood sugar is ok and my thyroid is in the realm of normal, but at the low end.

Welcome cyster. I'm glad that you are here. I'm new also and share your pain. I'm about 5'4 and 209. I have a 1 yr. old son and keep telling myself that the weight will come off. That as soon as I get myself motivated I'm going to loose it. I suppose the cake I'm eating right now isn't helping is it? I think it's wonderful that you've found a doctor that is PCOS savvy. It's so hard to find one that even knows what PCOS is much less to be able to find one who has such personal experience with it! Good luck and welcome.
