Hi Everyone, I am new to this website but not new to having PCOS. I was diagnosed in 2000. I have seen 8 different doctos to try and help with my PCOS and so far I haven't found one that has been successful with their treatment.
Let's see where do I begin. I have tried glucophage 2 different times and both times I was sicker than a dog and had no menstrual cycle, lost no weight, and did not conceive. Then after that I tried fertility treatement. The doctor put me on Avandia and within 2weeks I had a period. Then she added clomid with my Avandia I was ovulating and having normal periods but was not getting pregnant. Then she added the HCG with the avandia and clomid. Let's just say after a year of this I was tired of being poked and proded and tired of taking pregnancy test after test and seeing negative that I told my husband I wanted to stop the fertility. Then when we decided to try another doctor I found out I have thyroid problems too. So,they put me on thyroid medicine. Which the doctor at that time said that my thyroid problems was probably what was keeping the fertitliy from working. So,we worked on the thyroid and decided to see a natural doctor. That doctor put me on so many supplements I won't even try and tell you all of them. They didn't work at all. The doctor I am seeing now has tried 2 herbal treatments that didn't work and now has me on progesterone cream. This doctor won't put me on anything like glumetza(new metformin time release drug)b/c my insulin and glucose levels are normal. So,they tested my hormones and said my estrongen is low,my progesterone is low and testorterone is high.Since we are wanting to get pregnant the progesterone cream is suppose to help me have periods, ovulate and be able to get pregnant.I have only been on it for a month. So far no period yet,I have been spotting for 20 days and having terrible abdominal cramping,so the doctor says this is a good sign my period is trying to start. We will see. I am really getting tired of seeing doctors. Somedays I want to throw my hands up and say I am done. I long to be a mommy, and to see my husband be a daddy.I long to not weigh over 200lbs,and not to grow facial hair. So,I keep hoping that one day I will come across a doctor who actually knows what they are doing and find something that works for me. If I don't then I will just believe that there is a reason and God has plan for it.
So,that is my brief story. I am looking forward to getting to chat with, support, laugh with and cry with my cysters as we walk daily with this challenge that others don't understand if they have not had to walk through it.
Have a blessed day

Country Mom: Thanks....I read where you saw Dr.Gluck,I actually saw him too.His methods with the glucophage didn't work for me at all I was on it for a year and no results for menses, weight lose,or child bearing.....Are you going to go see him again? I have a family friend who is seeing him right now and he is now also prescribing Glumetza. Thanks again.
GL with finding the right doctor. Why is it always so hard to find a good one? Someone that understands that we live in our bodies and know them better than anyone else, better than some test!

You did see him? Are you in the area, or did you travel to see him? (I'm in the area).
Yes, he is the one I am going back to. I didnt know he was using Glumetza, Im not even sure what that is! LOL I am hoping for the Glucophage, as it did help me lose weight - just bad side effects.
What does your family friend think?

Yeah,I did see Dr.G about 6 years ago. For me the metformin didn't work at all.It made me so sick I spent most of the time in the bathroom. It also didn't help me have periods or help me loose weight.
My family friend who is seeing him was originally started on the metformin with him and she couldn't tolerate it either. So he put her on Glumetza.I don't know much about it,it is new on the market. It is a form of metformin but it is time released so it is easier on the stomach and GI tract. From what I read you only take it once a day too. The family friend is having great results on it!!
To dipi,
It is hard finding a good doctor. You are right it is very frustrating that they don't listen to us and realize we do know our bodies best even if the tests are telling them something different.
How long have you known you had PCOS?

Hi Ella,
That was my thing with the Met also - lotsa side effects. But to be honest with the med - I didnt take it real real long - so maybe they wouldve went away. How long were you on it?
Glad to hear your friend is having good luck with the meds.
Thank you, I hope you soon find the right combination for yourself - and soon find good results!
Take care, and talk to you soon,

Country Mom- Yeah,I hear alot of people have bad side effects from met. I was on it for a year,so that was a pretty long time and the side effects never got any less. Even once I stopped I was still having the stomach problems for another month b/c it made my system so out of wack. Oh,well.I am contemplating trying the Glumetza if the progesterone cream I am now doesn't work for me.
Are you going back to Dr.G to trying and have another baby? How old is your first little one? I will be excited to hear how your appt goes in Sept.
God Bless,

Not necessarily trying to have another baby. If it happens - that would be a blessing, but - my first (and only) child is already going to be 6, in October.
Does the cream seem to be helping, how does the cream work? Sounds interesting. I am so ignorant in this whole "pcos" thing right now. Even though I was dx years ago, Ive forgotten half of what I knew, and the other half - I only semi-understood. If that makes sense! lol
to you and good hope that you soon get what you're wishing for!
Blessings,

Country Mom-
That would be awesome if you got pregnant again. I just love babies. My sister just had her second,a little girl, and I got to be in the delivery room it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen.Seeing God's little miracle being born.
The progesterone cream is easy to use it isn't covered by most insurance b/c you have to have it made at a compounding pharmacy. The doctor tells the pharmacy exactly what they want the mixture to be.(I actually get mine shipped to me b/c there are no compounding pharmacy here that I have found).Anyway all you do is for days 5-12 of your cycle you apply whatever dosage the doc.RX's usually something small. Then days 13-menses start you apply a larger dose, sometimes once a day sometimes twice a day it just depends on what the doc.says you need per your body. You rub it into your skin with your wrist, can't use your hands b/c when you wash your hands you don't want to wash it off you need the full dosage. You can apply it on your chest, inner thighs, inner arms, stomach, and you have to apply it in a different spot each night. For me I have only been on it for a month so we will see. The nice thing is I haven't really had any side effects from it,and it helps me sleep better at night. I have been spotting for 2weeks now which is good b/c I haven't had a period in forever. The doctor says just to give it some time and see what happens. If I haven't started in another week they will increase my dosage. They can also mix estrogen into the cream if your body needs it based on bloodwork.Since we are wanting to get pregnant even though my estrogen is low the doc.said that progesterone is more important b/c that is what helps the egg plant in your utereus and you to be able to carry the baby to term. So,we'll see. I actually go out of state to see this doc.too b/c here I wasn't able to find someone who does the cream, also called bio-identical hormones.
Totally off the subject are you watching Big Brother at all?
Have a great day
That's neat that you got to be in the room w/ the baby coming into the world! How neat, is that!! My sister is preg right now, and I was just out shopping for some baby gifts when he arrives. I got a little sappy in the aisle with all the baby blankets - then talking with you earlier - got me thinking "Gosh, sure would like another baby". I know what you're going through, we tried and tried (without meds, treatment) to have another one, it just never was meant to be. Now that he is going on 6, I go back and forth... Id never do anything to stop it, but - actively try - I doubt we'll do. I dont know..... like I say, we go back and forth with the idea..... It's ultimately up to God.
I hope you get your wish VERY soon! I'm sure you will, it just takes time sometimes. If it happened for me, it will happen for anyone else - I'm sure of it!
The cream sounds like an interesting tactic - I'm not surprised the insurance doesn't cover it. What DO they cover, is the better question. I am so fed up with Insurance, lately. Grrr! lol (can you tell?)
Are you ever given a medicine that brings on a period? Ive had that before, but I forget the name of it.
Typically how long between periods do you go? There for awhile, I was having one, every month - but that lasted only 2 months - now I'm back to skipping. I typically go 3-4 months inbetween (sometimes longer!!) - what about you?
No, I dont watch Big Brother - why, do you? I need to spend more time watching things that are popular - so I can talk about them w/ people. I do watch American Idol when it's on. LOL
