We've just begun the adoption process this month ...
We're a little worriedabout coming up with the money needed though.
We are so greatful for what we've raised so far and we've got faith that somehow God will provide us with the other money!
Besides waiting on God to open a door for us financially I feel like we should be doing something to come up with the money. We're trying to avoid taking out loans. Has anyone here had any success with fundraisers?
P.S. We've already looked into adoption through the foster care system but unfortunatly we don't meet their required marriage length of 3 years yet.

As a friend told me (and has been true fo us as well): the money will be there: PENNIES FROM HEAVEN. We were gifted with a large check for our first adoption shortly after referral. And this time around our tax refund is here for a sort of unexpected referral! God has a funny way of ensuring your trust in Him ;-)
Remember that when you adopt, you will probably qualify for a federal tax CREDIT. This means that you will likely get a large refund for a couple years after the adoption is finalized. Some families do not use it up (you have 3 or 5 years, the rules recently changed so I don't remember) for various reasons, but it has been great for us and DH has been deployed to tax free zones. We have been able to pay off the part of the adoption we put on a credit card (agency fees) and are paying for the current adoption with the remainder of our credit and refund.
The best site for info about financing an adoption is this one. There are all sorts of resources listed there.
What type of adoption are you interested in, domestic or international?

Thanks for the encouragement! I know most of all that I've just got to trust the Lord for the money!
I'll check that site now ...
We are interested in a Domestic adoption. We are still keeping the idea of International adoption open but for the most part we're looking at Domestic.

Wow strange that alabama says you need to be married for three years to adopt from foster care. In Oregon, where we adopted, There is no length of marriage needed and we started our home study after only be married for 6 months. good luck

A family here is trying to adopt two children from Africa and having trouble coming up with the money. They recently passed out empty baby bottles and asked people to fill them with change during the month of March. our family has had fun doing it and we are happy to help them.
Good luck and I hope you will reconsider the state system when you meet the requirements!

Baby boy on the way!!!!!!! Due 3/10/2010 I couldn't feel more blessed.
Andrea: We will consider adopting through the foster care system when we're ready to adopt again!
You know, I've seen several people talk about the baby bottle fundraising idea but I never really thought of us using it. I think I will try that. My sister just gave me two huge bags full of baby bottles that her two boys used. There are a good bit of those cheap ones ... I think I'll start working on a design to place in the bottle, maybe something people can read about.
