Default Hello~ :-)

Just wanted to introduce myself.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in May, with a TSH level of 125 (yes it's true! LOL! I was pretty much feeling dead! )

I was put on .025mcg for several weeks to start off. Then went up to .050mcg in July and registered a TSh of 47...now I am on .075 and have a TSH of 17.08! We're getting there!! LOL!!!

I was also diagnosed with PCOS at that time...and my doctor put me on Metformin, but then took me off as she said hypo's shouldn't take Met until their TSH levels are corrected.

So that's it in a nutshell...oh yeah, I'm also on Atkins and trying to get pregnant with my first baby!

polly i have never heard of not being able to take met and thyroid at the same time...seems to me you need both to get better at teh same time to support your system over all..... did she give data that says why she make that decision? i am on both right now...

good luck xoxoxo jenn

hi jenn...I think she meant it strictly in the sense I mentioned...until your levels are normal (1-3.3).

She told me once my levels were there, she'd put me back on it but it would do no good until that time. I'm assuming it's due to my levels being quite outrageous.

She has never said it was a problem to take both thyroid and PCOS meds. I'm sorry if my post confused you?

no lol i understood.... but..i hate to sound like a know it all..but i think your dr isnt right!!! met takes a long time to kick in..and why post pone that by waiting... met will help your hormones ex estrogen testosterone..and thyroid helps your thyroid...they are separate entitities..yet if one is off it can throw your whole body off and imo and in my drs opinions, you cant treat one and wait for it to be perfect before you help the other...... its like saying to a cancer patient who breaks his leg..going well until your cancer is gone we cant mend your leg or put it in a cast..... i dont know ..maybe other cysters will lend their info........
good luck girlie....and let me know if you find out why she says it wont do any good k?? xoxoxo jenn

Wow PollyParrothead, I hope your TSH gets lower soon, so you can feel better. Your doctor sounds very conservative. My original dx was like yours, a TSH of 112.. and my endo put me on 150 mcg right away (well, I think we took a week or two to ramp up to it, with 75 mcgs). I was down to a TSH of 2.14 within 2 months. Now, I'm pregnant, and my doseage is 200 mcg; I have found that I feel best below 1.5.

Welcome to the boards, hope you feel good soon!

Hey Polly,

I'm going to have to agree with your DR a little. My OB/GYN told me I can keep taking the GLU XR, but it won't do a thing until my Thy is at the right level. The only reason I agreed to is because he said my body would have to re-adjust to the GLU. and the begining was horrid!

I have also found that a low carb diet helps TONS for feeling better! I can't quit all the carbs at once... theres just too much. (By the way, I just started the low carb thing) I promised myself no potatoes and no noodles! (I MISS PASTA ALREADY) But for the 2 weeks I've been doing it... I really feel LOTS better! my biggest problem is cutting out bread. But everytime I eat too much carbs... no only does my stomach complain (from taking the glu) but I'm more sleepy, hard to concentrate and really not motivated to do much of anything...except my job of course.

Anyway, thats my thoughts and info... welcome

Brandy (age 26)
