My names Dawn and I live in England. I was diagnosed with Pcos two weeks ago after visting a gynocologist for painfull periods. After an Ultrasound he gave me the good news, and then perceeded to tell me that i needed to drop 3 stone (im 12 st 7lbs and five foot 4inches) or ill become diabetic. He ran through a very breif what and what not to eat gave me a pamphlet and sent me on my way. I have to say i was very confused upset and frightened and didnt really have a clue what was wrong with me. I decided to buy some books and search the internet to try and understand what was happening to me and what i had to do to make it better. However i still had quite a few questions so made an appointment to see my doctor, and to be honest he didnt know too much about the condition and openly admitted that.
I have been quite surprised about the lack of information the medical proffession have on this condition and all i can say is thank god for books , the internet and sites such as this.
I am glad you found us here! There is a lot of knowledgable cysters here. We probably know more about this than they do!
I've found that reading and research is the best thing you can do!
Hope to *see* ya around!

Dawn ~ Hello and Welcome to SC!! You could not have found a more informative or supportive site! If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask - the women here are pretty awesome! I would take some time and read the "stickies" which are attached to the top of each forum - they are full of very good information!
Keep posting and see ya around the boards!!

Dawn, sounds like you got one of our lovely doctors over here who really don't seem to think before they open their mouths! You are in the right place to learn about PCOS and all of us have found it's easier to cope with doctors when you know what you're talking about. Sounds like he was really trying to put the wind up you. With careful diet and monitoring, it's not a dead cert that you will develop diabetes, some cysters never do.
Take all the time you need to check out the different forums. There are some great tips on losing weight and improving your general health on the diet and exercise board. Colette Harris has written some great books on dealing with PCOS. Look for them on Amazon if you want. Good luck.
Welcome to sc. I agree this place will support you and give you lots of information. It is also a great place to make friends who share the same condition. I don't know about you but I didn't know anyone with PCOS before I joined the site. My friends are great but they can never understand what its like if you don't have it.
I was freaking for a while untill i found this site, i knoew no one who had even heard of this condition let alone had it ( yes my good old docs included)
Anyway just wanted to say a bit thanks for being so freindly and showing me support.
