Hi, I just joined up here. This seems like a really nice forum, I'm glad I stumbled upon it
Please don't feel you have to read the following info about me ^^; I tend to ramble on for too long, lol.
I was diagnosed with PCOS this month, about a week ago, after nearly 2 years of wondering what the heck was going on.
December 2006 I came off the pill, my first natural period after that was Feb 07, then I didn't have another until jan 08. I haven't had one since.
I went to see a consultant in sept 07, who quickly jumped to the conclusion my weight (I'm about 200 pounds I think. Sorry, I work in kilos usually ^^; 92kg) caused my cycles to screw up. I've never managed to lose weight. I actually put on 20kg suddenly in 2006.
Hearing that really got to me, I felt really depressed (more so than usual) and blamed myself for being overweight but also I still had no idea what was actually going on. I wasn't satisfied so I went to see a different GP, who understood my main problem was not knowing what was causing the huge gaps between my periods.
So last week I went to see another consultant, had an ultrasound and got the PCOS diagnosis. I was also prescribed Provera so I can have a period every 3 months. And I have to have a yearly blood test for lipids and fasting blood sugar levels.
I feel so much better just knowing what I have. Except now I'm worried about the future when my husband and I will want childen. I'm at uni at the moment, and my husband is unemployed so children won't be on the cards for a few years yet. But the consultant said we should TTC as early as we can in case it proves difficult.
So, hello everyone ^_^ You'll probably see me pop up randomly in threads from time to time.
