Default hello everyone!!

Hi there, i just wanted to introduce myself!
I used to be a regular on this site, but lost my way a bit, so this is the first time i've been beck in over a year!
i used to be a pumpkin - but now i'm a pumpkinpie!
I'm 31, living in nottm with my boyfriend who's 21 (age is just a number, honest!)
was diagnosed when i was 25, symptoms kicked in when around 21.
I've just set up my own business and now i think its time to give myself some TLC!
I'm planning on starting on Atkins - anyone in here had any success with that??
Hope to chat with you all soon!

Hello Pumpkin, nice to meet you. i am fairly new round here.

If you are thinking of starting Atkins are you following the Diet Trials on BBC1? Atkins is one of the four diets they are following.

Hi again!
I watched diet trials last night, it will be interesting how they fair on the atkins when they test the body in that machine they were on about.
However i cant wait till then, so I'm devising my own version of the atkins!
I figured that whenever i eat carbs - i feel crap! theres no point escaping the issue!
however as i have raised cholesterol levels etc i dont want eat masses of fat either. So I'm going to initially cut out all starchy carbs. instead eat loads of oily fish (i've decided to eat fish again after years of not doing) tofu and soya with loads of salad and veggies. alllow occasional yogurt and strawberries, eat some cheese - but not go mad and drink smalll amounts of milk in decaf coffee.
i started this yesterday. I'll let you know how i get on!
yesterday i had
one egg omlette with spinach & mushrooms and intsy bit of grated cheddar.
tuna salad for lunch
cajun salmon steak and salad for dinner + soya yogurt
today, so far
fake egg omlette with bit of cheese and loads of veggie (egg replacement stuff)
I'm going to a graduation lunch today, which is going to be tough as there will be loads of food there that will no doubt be carb city - i am determined to resist!
I've also been taking my met properly - i am going to try as the past few months just forget all about it!
is anybody else in here on any kind of diet??

Yes I am on a 'kind of' diet! lol - basically I should be doing more than I am, but I am just pleased I am doing something....! <vbg> It's exercise with me. If I exercise then I can get the weight off. I eat fairly sensibly anyway. I just try to reduce the amount of fat, sugar and the portions. If I get myself into the routine of exercise then it works well. I am size 18 now, but have got myself down to 10 before now. That usually does the trick. I am a believer in 'balanced' dieting - that most things, in moderation, are fine. So cut down on carbs, of course, but not get rid of them completely. I don't think cutting out carbs completely is a good idea in the longterm (this is only me personal opinion, I am no expert of course). Atkins worries me - what longterm effect is it having on bones, kidneys or other body organs and systems? It works, sure, but at what cost?

Hello and welcome back.

Good luck with the diet - have you tried reading the Carb Addicts Diet and or the Glucose Revolution. They provide an alternative method to Atkins but use the same principles. I believe that they aren't quite as fascist about eating the right sort of carbs and therefore might be easier to stick to.

I've responded to your post in the diet forum. I'm actively dieting and my post details my method.

Jules
