Default Hello, I'm new here

Hello

I just came across the forum as I was looking online for info on PCOS and Vitex Agnus Castus.. and really glad to have found you.

I have already looked around and think this is a great site.

A little about myself. I live in the US Midwest and am 30. I got married so pretty happy .

Anyway, I was diagnosed about 7 years ago with PCOS after years of having very irregular periods.. My key symptoms as far as I know are irregular periods caused by the hormone imbalance and overweight (not obese). I'm 5ft 8 and ~180 lbs.

My mother dragged me to her Ob-gyn when I was about 17 because I was a virgin (so she was sure I wasnt pregnant ) but my period was highly irregular. Of course the dr prescribed contraceptives which I was on for years. Never had any other symptoms, am tall 5ft 8" and weighed about 150lbs for years.

I got tired of being on the pill especially when I wasnt in a relationship then stopped. Then my period was regular for about 6 - 8 months and then went out of wack kinda like it comes in Jan, then wont come till April, then its fine each month till July then disappear in August, back in Sept.. got tired of its erractic nature and went back on the pill.. This time around, I started gaining weight especially around my belle and arse then the dr changed the pill to a lower dose one but I couldnt lose the weight.

I decided to finally go see my own ob-gyn when I was about 24 and the did loads of tests - bloodwork and ultrasound (whatever it is that they insert a camera into you to see) and he diagnose me with PCOS and said that since I wasnt trying to conceive I should go back on the pill as it was important to keep my hormone levels balanced and stuff..This was in the UK

Anyway 2 years ago here in the US, my PCP recommended that I go see a ob-gyn when I told her of the PCOS.. The ob-gyn has been great, she again did loads of test to see if I was insulin resistant or had high cholestrol but tests came back okay and the ultrasound showed the PCOS with pearl-like cysts. She tried glucophage becos apparently it may help regularize my periods but nothing happened after 3 months and I didnt like taking it and I went back to the pill, this time Yasmin and was told to come back when I'm ready to try to conceive

I went back to see the ob-gyn dr in october since I was getting married in Dec and wanted to start trying immediately. She said to finish the last cycle of the Yasmin and wait for 2 - 3months to see if my periods would come back on its own and that the treatment was multi-fold, 1) get the period back 2) ensure that I'm ovulating 3) try to conceive

Anyway, a friend mentioned Agnus castus to me back in Dec and I went to GNC and bought it immediately. I stopped Yasmin in November and had a period in Nov from the Yasmin.

I also started taking Pre-natal vitamins and Agnus Castus in Dec. I had a regular 4 - 5 day period in Dec and also in Jan without the pill. I dont know if its the Agnus Castus or what but dont care, just glad that my period came.

i just never cared about stuff like ovulation etc before so I dont even know when I was supposed to be ovulating but thanks to the internet :-) I found a website www.mymonthlycycles.com that helps me calculate my cycle and ovulation etc. so I know am supposed to be ovulating next week so I bought an ovulation kit to find out if am at least ovulating.. But am praying really hard

I know that I just officially started trying to conceive this month but I really want to get pregnant and I'm trying not to start worrying...

all in all, I sure am glad to have found this forum.

Thanks
Jade

Welcome! I'm new too, just joined yesterday.

I too have had irregular periods for a long time (since I graduated high school...I'm 27 now). I've been back and forth between obgyn's but none of them ever did extensive tests (glucose, ultrasound) until recently and I was diagnosed with PCOS earlier this month.

I could go a really long without having a period (like now where I haven't had one for over a year) and never really knew what a normal cycle was supposed to act like. How long between cycles? When do you ovulate? How long is a cycle supposed to last? I never asked these questions because for me it was different every time. I'm hoping with the metformin I will start getting my cycles because we are ready to get pregnant.

Good luck to you!
