Hello everyone!!!! I'm not sure if this is where I post my first thread or not. Well, my name is Marianne. I just turned 30. I was diagnosed in May of this year. My fiance' is in nursing school and urged me to see my doctor after learning about womens menstrual cycles and what not. He knew that I hadn' gotten mine since I had went off my birth control 2 years ago. We want to have a baby along with that and concerns for my health he advised me to see my OBGY. I had never confided in my OBGYN that I only had gotten my period on my own about 3 times in my life. I was reading symptoms online before I went to the dr. I have the skin tags and am overweight and some extra facial hair. So, I pretty much knew what was wrong with me. I had so many tests done. It was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever had to go through...especially the internal ultra sound. Honestly, my Dr. was no help when it came to my diagnosis. She didn't tell me anything about it other then thats what was wrong with me and that she was putting me on birth control to regulate me. She told me that when I am ready to get pregnant wait after taking the pill for at least 2 months then to go off my birth control and try right away. None of it was much help. So I just went off my birth control. I don't expect to get pregnant with in the next few weeks. Now I'm just confused. I don't know whether to go back to her or to see a specialist. I don't have good health care...it's through the state so I don't have many options. When my fiance; become a nurse I will have good health care but that won't be for over a year. Secretly it kills me inside. I hide the tears...not to get him upset. I haven't told anyone except my sister, but I didn't really explain it to her. I just said I have PCOS and i have to take birth control. I'm not an open person with emotions and when things are wrong in my life. I am hoping that this site can help me with my issues.
HI! It is all very confussing when you dont' have someone to give you great advice. I had a doctor write my insurance company, that is how I found out I had it!! So my new doctor has been wonderful, he has recommended books that help explain alot of information. I bought " A Guide to the Polycystic Ovary: Its effects on the Health and Fertility. by Professor Gabor Kovacs" It is very much like a text book but with lots of good information.
I would highly recommend someone with more knowledge of the PCOS. My doctor perscribed Provera which helps you start your cycle with out being on birth control.
Not sure I was much help, but the book is great! Barnes and Noble is where i found it.
Thank you so much for the information. My Dr. prescribed me provera and told me to stop it once I got my persiod and then start the birth control. I don't understand how I am suppose to get pregnant if I'm on the pill. I understand it's importnant for me to be regulated but I don't understand why she didn't provide me with more information. I just left really confused and at a loss. I will definitly get that book. Thank you so so much for the advice!!!!
I know how confusing this is... I am right there with you! You doctor's instructions did confuse me as well.
When I went to my doctor this last time I had not gotten AF since the winter and the past month was full of on and off spotting. I went to him and he asked if I was planning to TTC. I said yes so he said that he would NOT give me BCP and instead gave me Provera to being on a regular cycle of AF (1 10mg pill a day for 10 days). AF came 5 days later. He also gave me clomid 50mg to take on Cycle days 5-9.
I dont know why he gave you BCP... Provera and clomid would probably make more sense
She started me off with provera. I had to take it for 10 days and then start my pill as soon as i got my period. I had my period for a month! That got me even more confused and worried. I am now regulated because of the BCP. But, I am ready to TTC. So I'm at a point where if she doesn't help me I don't know what to do. I will def. bring up the information that you have provided me. Maybe she will take it more seriously or at least know I am very serious about TTC. Thank you so much for the post!!!!
I have the same issues you do with the no periods.. It is so hard. I just wanted to say it is not impossible to get pg without having periods I did five times, and I have three kids I did have two miscarriages..but I believe that was due to untreated hypothyroidism.
Nice to meet you

I think you should find a new doctor, maybe a RE
seems like she doesn't know what she is talking about. Sometime you
have to act like the doctor and tell them what you want.
provera and Clomid is the way to go first, and did she check for IR?
If you are IR then you should be put on metformin, it helps regulate your
hormones and helps you lose weight.
Thanks so much!!!! I really don't know if I am IR. I had so many tests done I honestly don't even know the results other then "everything looks good." I was going to ask her for the results from my internal ultra sound in case I change doctors because I don't want to have to go through that again. I will def. bring the provera and clomid up with her. I was on Provera for 10 days she told me to take it until I got my period then to take the BCP. If it seems like she's no help to me I will change doctors. Thank you so much for the advice!!!!
Hello there!! I wanted to let you in on some info that may help.
The reason your doc told you to take the BCP's for two months then stop to TTC is because *SOMETIMES* BCP can "jump start' your reproductive system.
It may work, it may not. But that is exactly what my doctor wanted to do with me but I refused to go back on BCP's.
You probably had a period for a month because you went 2 years without having one. That lining in your uterus will keep getting thicker and thicker. That's why it is dangerous to go more then 6 months without a period (increases your risk of cancer).
To get tested for IR, you should have a fasting insulin test.
:-D
Maybe some of that info will help ya out.
