Default Hello...I'm new (with questions)

Hi Everyone,

I'm 28 years old from Florida and I have a long history of female troubles. About 2 years ago my periods became erratic...months of not having one, to months of bleeding! An ultrasound confirmed follicle cysts. I have had hypoglycemia since I was 16, and also been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis + Celiac Disease/Pernicious Anemia. Recently I have had acne, hot flashes, and gained weight (which could also be caused by my thyroid [TSH is currently 6] My doctor feels that I might have pcos, although all my bloodwork has come back normal (all the hormone and cholesterol tests were perfect...and done two different times). The only test I haven't had yet is glucose tolerance which he wants to do for diabetes.

Question: I have been checking my blood sugar on a regular basis for a long time (like upon waking up and even after meals) and since I went on a low carb diet/high protein and been eating frequent meals my bs is always within 80 to 115 range. This has been great for me because I feel better. If I were to be diabetic wouldn't my bs be consistently high. So far it has never gone over 120...until...

My doc started me on Ortho Evra a week ago and I don't think Im doing so well on it. Of course Im having the spotting/cramping. Suddenly my fasting bs went from normally being in the range of 60-80 to 125. And after a meal of just baked chicken it shot up to 185! I read that bcs can raise bs, so is this normal? The last thing I want to do is cause myself to have diabetes, which I don't think I've got in the first place.

If anyone has some insight on blood sugar/insulin resistance and birth control I would appreciate it.

Sunni

Default Welcome to SoulCysters!

I don't know about the BCP-BS connection, you may want to ask that question on either the diabetes or the BCP forum. BUT I was going to ask you to post your blood test results. A lot of doctors tell you the results are normal b/c they don't know how to read them. THey look at individual numbers instead of relations and ratios. My first doctor made that mistake too and tried to tell me I did not have PCOS when I SO DO. Another thing you can do if you don't want to post them here is click on the PCOS FAQ link in my sig line. Go to section 2.10 in that article and compare your results and come to your own conclustions.

See you around the boards, cyster!
