Really there is no need to be scared!! PCOS is not a death sentence, it's definitely manageable. Obviously you and your dr will find a plan of medication that will work for you, but if you want a little advice, I have some to give. He might offer you birth control pills, and while these may cover up some symptoms for a while, if you ever decide to go off of them, things will probably come back full force and possibly worse. This happened to me multiple times and to many women I've spoken with here. Metformin is a great prescription to try (as long as your bloodwork comes back okay) and it can actually help regulate things instead of mask them.
It's great your mom is supportive and taking you to the dr. Don't be afraid to ask a million questions and make sure to write things down before hand. Wishing you luck, and welcome to the board, it can be A LOT of help now that you know what's going on. Take care!
