Question Help!!

I've been on 1500 mg of metaformin since september and am not seeing any difference in the PCOS symptoms that i have the most trouble with (hirutsm and acne) For any of you that have dealt with this when did you start seeing some changes? I'm assuming that as long as those problems are still evident that my testosterone levels are still high. My DH will be returning from Iraq soon and we want to start trying for a family so I'd love to have this PCOS under control by then. What's the highest dosage of metformin you can be on? I'll be going to my doctor again in a week but I'd like some advice from other women who are going through it. Thanks!!

Not sure about the acne, but Met doesn't do much for hirsutism (for most people). There are other drugs for unwanted hair, but those won't do you any good if you want to get pregnant soon.

The highest dose is somewhere around 2500mg. Have you checked out the Metformin FAQ sticky at the top of this forum? You'll find a lot of useful info there.

Good luck and welcome to SoulCysters!

It cleared my brain fog, brought back af, helped me lose weight, made me o' again, and helped me get pregnant. My first Metformin miracle is now 3 years old, my second (surprise one) arrived December11!

The Met will help to lower your testesterone levels, which will help inhibit future hair growth. Unfortunately, as Japan said it won't help much for the hair you already have. Once those hair follicles have been stimulated, they will keep growing unless you do laser hair removal or electrolysis. You might want to visit the Hair forum on this site for some info about how to deal with the hair you have.

2500 mg is the max dose for regular Met. For the Met ER (extended release) the max dose is 2000 mg.
