Default Help!!!

I have recently been diagnoised with PCOS a couple of months ago. I have been doing some research and have found this web-site very helpful. But I need to some advise.

In May of last year I had seen a GYN who sent me for an US and some blood work so that they could see why I wasn't having my periods, and he told me that if he didn't call not to worry. He never called so I didn't worry. In October I went to my family Dr. for an ear infection and she was the one who told me that I had PCOS. I was very shocked that my GYN never called me to tell me of this. I aked her what I should do and she told me of course to loose weight and to start taking BC. So I did. I started them right away. Now when I do have my period it is so painfull. I have horrible cramps and if I could I would stay in bed all day long. Not only that but I have the worst mood swings, my emotions run wild, and I am on a diet and gaining weight(I think because of the BC).My concern is that maybe I am not taking the right kind of medication I have heard others talk about being on Metformin and other meds Should I be on something like this?? The facial hair is still growing in strong, the weight it seems is never coming off and the acne is not clearing up.

At this point I am desperate. Please any info for a newbie would be great.

Kim

Welcome to the group! Metformin is a great drug that thin, as well as overweight cysters can benefit from. I would talk to your doctor about that. There is a great section at the top of the screen for newbies where you can get lots of great info. Hope that helps!

I am all for Metformin and very much against BCP's. Great to mask symptoms, yes, but no help in treating the actual problem. Have you read the Metformin FAQ sticky at the top of the Metformin forum? It has a lot of really helpful information.

Feel free to post any other questions. Welcome to the boards.

It cleared my brain fog, brought back af, helped me lose weight, made me o' again, and helped me get pregnant. My first Metformin miracle is now 3 years old, my second (surprise one) arrived December11!
