IS THERE ANYONE THERE? I NEDD SOME WORDS OF WISDOM. WILL I GAIN WEIGHT? LOOSE HAIR? I WAS JUST DIAGNOSED A WEEK AGO AND I CANT FIND ANYONE THAT HAS THIS THAT IS NOT OVERWEIGHT. IM 5"2 AND 100LBS. IM HORRIFIED THAT I WILL GAIN LIKE 200LBS. WILL SOMEONE ANSWER ME PLEASE? I ALSO AM TRYING TO GET PREGNENT BUT MY DOCTOR PUT ME N BIRTH CONTROL PILLS.
I answered some of your other questions before, but I haven't lost any hair (in fact I have more than I'd like!) and I don't have any unwanted hair elsewhere. i do have mild acne, but I've always had that. Met was the wonder drug for me to conceive. I've never had a problem with weight but my cycles were always irregular and I had trouble conceiving and an ultrasound showed the cysts. I think there are different degrees of PCOS. Good luck!
Thank you! Im new at the thread thing but I finally figured it out. I kept loosing the page taht I was on . I don't mean to bother you with the same questions. But I posted my questions on the new page so everyone will see. I am really grateful that you took the time to answer me. congrats on the baby. I was trying for about a year but I stoppedwhen I found out I had pcos. I will try again soon. are the chances of getting pregnant good?
There are alot of thin women with PCOS. Actually, obesity is considered a non traditional trait of PCOS. I have excess hair growth and irregular cycles, and that is about it. I used to be small like you, but I tried to gain weight, and now I weigh 115. It was hard getting to that weight too. So relax, you wont gain weight.

There is a good chance that if you are thin now you may stay thin. Even if you gain some weight, there are countless ways to take it off. When I first started to show symptoms I was tiny at 5'3" and 98 lbs. In the year and a half since then I've gained about 15 lbs and am now about 112. I can tell that I would gain a lot of weight if I did not watch what I eat, but I eat fairly low carb and cut sugar out of my diet. There are ways you can return to your normal weight. If you are trying to conceive and your doctor is not taking you seriously, go to a more natural doctor and he may prescribe herbs which can be wonderful when TTC. Good luck!
I'm a little concerned about gaining weight right now too. I was on Met for about 6 mths and lost about 10-20 lbs. I've been off the Met for 5 mths and have gained it all back, plus some. I also had ovarian drilling done in Oct. I was on BCP from when I was 15 until I was 21 or so and my OBGYN said it probably saved some of my fertility. I'm 27 now and it seems as though I'm still developing my PCOS symptoms due to not getting them while I was on BCP (if that makes any sense!) I've been thin all my life but I'm concerned that the BCP was keeping the PCOS in check and now it's going to run rampant! Has anyone had an experience with this?
Skinnypcos: I wouldn't worry too much if I were you - if you've always been thin naturally then my guess is that you'll stay that way (that's just my un-professional opinion though). If you're really concerned you could always talk to your doctor about what to expect in the future. (And I guess I should take my own advice on that as well!) And remember, if you stay on them, BCPs cause many women to put on a bit of weight when they first start.
I've read and heard that being overweight is a nontraditional symptom of PCOS, but I find it hard to believe, especially with all the articles I find being about obesity and stuff (sorry, off topic a bit).
I don't think you have to worry too much about suddenly growing hair in bad places and losing hair in good places and gaining weight and all that. Everyone has their own style of PCOS, so don't worry about that. I don't really have any symptoms aside from not getting my period.
As for the birth control, my doctor put me on them for a few months to kind of regulate me before taking me off to start trying to conceive. So that's probably what your doc is doing.
I'm 5ft 2 and while i'm not skinny i certainly wouldn't say i'm overweight. I'm 112lb approx which is the healthy weight for my height (yay curves!).
I have MORE hair than i'd like, like my mother and sister i have the typical PCOS fuzzy belly... eugh. A full head of rather thick curly hair (yay) and I managed to fall pregant (unintentionally oops) on Metformin.
While i've gained a little weight recently, this is mostly from bad diet and general lazying about post birth. However, I still consider that i'm not carrying much more weight than I should.
A lot of Pcos women are thin, a lot are overweight... we all have different symptoms but these are things that don't just appear overnight, if you were going to balloon you'd have likely done so by now. Just eat sensibly and try to take care of yourself.
My own symptoms were things i'd dealt with pretty much since hitting puberty and never really thought much of other than it was heriditary.. I never as a kid even considered it was any sort of medical condition. Hair growth i'd had since well, I can remember... i've been slim by whole life and the only thing that really got worse as time wore on was irregular cycles and agonising pain (which is again, not a traditional pcos symptom).
I agree with Choc on the low carb/sugar thing. I was told when I was diagnosed to try the GI diet to attempt to help my body cope. A healthy body after all.... well yeah. Of course, I sorta threw that diet out the window when I fell pregnant thanks to cravings but now i'm trying to get back onto it and fingers crossed, it'll stop me from putting any more weight on lol. I've found it doesn't make me lose weight at all, but keeps me stable. I suppose this is the weight i'm meant to be, nice and happily in the green band... hahaha
