    Unhappy Help??

Hi all, I just posted this on another section, but I realize i should have put it here...Sorry about that.

I'm 24, married, and was diagnosed 2 days ago with PCOD.
I went to my gyno because I have had pain on and off (feels like what I've known to be ovulating in the days when I was not on b.c.). I just KNEW there was somehting wrong. The pain was only on my left side. When they did an internal ultrasound and I saw the little black cysts on BOTH ovaries, but the tech told me everyhting looked good, so I didn't question it. My doc called me later to tell me that I have POCD. He said it couldn't be anything else based on the ultrasound images. He said that becuase I have been on birth control since 16, my symptoms have been supressed. But I started my periods at 13....So here's my question:

I have NO other symptoms. I don't exhibit any hair loss, acne, or body hair, - I never did! And I am thin...my BMI is within range. I never even had acne as a teen!

I went yesterday for a hemoglobin c1a test. I am waiting for the results, BUT I had my glucose checked for a program through my husband's work back in July, and it was in the lowest range, or it was the ideal result.

If my hemoglobin c1a test comes back normal, should I be questioning whether I even have POCD or if those little cysts are somehting else?

I also made an appt. with a reproductive endrocrinologist but she can't fit me in until end of January. My husband and I were going to wait to a couple more years to have kids, but now I wonder if I should start trying now in case I encounter all kinds of issues? (like infertility, miscarriages). It does make me feel good that a lot of women on this site have children...

ANY insight from ANYONE will be sooo appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Allison

    Hi Alison,

I was diagnosed with pco's in September after ttc from July 07. This is how I found out I had pco's. My periods started when I was 11 and were always regular. I never suffered from acne (actually have very good skin and only had spots when I was having a period), wasn't overweight, etc. I went on the pill when I was 21-22 and went off the pill inJuly 2007 and my periods were still regular. Once I got off the pill, this is were things started going wrong for me. My periods gradually got lighter and less frequent to nothing for several months, so went to the doctors and was told it was probably just side effects from the pill, then months later got bloods done and then was told it was PCO's. After trying for 16 months I finally got pregnant naturally in November after losing 16lbs doing Atkins diet and regular excercise but unfortunately it ended in m/s last tuesday. Luckily i had a natural m/s. I was devastated at first but it helps to know that I did it all myself and I will do it again. So I am trying my best to get on with things and try again soon hopefully. If I were you I would get off the pill if your still on it and try and get your cycles sorted and get the meds you need to help. I am just glad I didn't wait too long. Once we got married we decided we would try straight away. How lucky was I, like you I hadn't any symptoms of PCO's. I hope this helps you a bit.

    Love

Thanks a lot brianna. I am so sorry to hear what you're going through, but it's great to hear you concived naturally. It helps to know there are others without all these symptoms. Now I have to wait till Monday to hear about my test for pre-diabetes, I am just hoping I don't have it...I feel like that will make it a whole different situation. My doctor told me if I am pre-diabetic I will have to take 3 pills a day, with horrible side affects such as diarrhea.

Keeping My fingers crossed - and thanks so much for replying to me!

    No Problem Allison,

Keep your chin up. There is no point pannicking about these things, whatever's meant to be will be the only thing you can do is keep eating healthy and regular excercise. I'm still sticking with the atkins diet as I don't mind it anyway and exercise. There's no point getting stressed out, it only makes things worse. Let me know how you get on and I will be thinking of you. All the best of luck,

    Brianna, xx

Hello. I wanted to say hi and tell you about my PCOS background. The only difference between us is that I am over weight. I also don't have any hair growth, hair loss, or acne. I didn't have acne as a teenager either. I started my periods when I was thirteen and had irregular periods after that until I went on birth control. We are started to TTC now. We don't want to take any risks with my fertility.

It is all based off what you want to do and what you feel comfortable with. That's awesome that you are going to see a RE, I am sure that you could wait to TTC until you see the RE, its only one month away! And after that, do what ever you feel is best for you and your DH. Nice talking with you! Good luck.

    Question Update

    Thanks everyone, for your advice!!!

I spoke with my doc last week. My blood tests for pre-diabetes came back normal. He basically said he cannot diagnose me with PCOS b/c they have to have 2 out of 3 criteria to do so:

    1. Polycystic Ovaries on Ultrasound (which I have)
    2. Pre-Diabetes (don't have. thank goodness)
    3. High Androgen Levels and side effects that come with them (hair loss, body hair, acne, ect) I don't have the side effects, and since I'm on b.c., I can't get my androgen levels checked. He assumes I won't have high levels since no side effects.

He said if I hadn't experinced pain in my left ovary, they never would have known what my ovaries looked like. I kept asking if I could have something else, he said no, other than "funny looking ovaries". I said I wanted to know what caused all the cysts, he said "If you aren't being affected by it, why would you care?" He suggested that with the ultrasounds that are available today, they are seeing things like this more frequently and it almost seemed like he was at a loss for explanation.
Anyway, I feel very fortunate that I do not have all the side effects that can come along with PCOS, but can't wait to talk to the RE and see what she says. They have to know a reason why my ovaries would have mutiple cysts! Right??

Oh, and my friend's mom said I could just be producing lots of eggs? Not cysts? LOL...So confused!

    Thanks again,

    Allison
