Kathy is right. It's often referred to as the "Dawn Phenomenon" and it's quite common among diabetics. Your liver begins to dump glucose into your bloodstream a few hours before you wake because you've gone so long without eating. If you have a small snack (1 protein/1 carb) at bedtime, that can often lessen this effect.
Also, I notice you are taking metformin. What time(s) of day do you take it? For people who experience this dawn phenomenon, sometimes it can be helpful to take at least one of your pills closer to bedtime. This can help some to have lower morning blood sugars also. (This was all information I learned and suggestions they gave us in my diabetes education classes.)
