Question Help Cysters-have Q's would love A's

Hola Cysters,

I was diagnosed PCOS 12/98 but was not told this by Dr. until I brought an article on PCOS to a visit two years later.

In June I visited an Internist at the Center for PCOS named Kathy Shariff that prescribed 2000mg of Fortamet which is essentially Extended release Metformin that has been on the market since May 04. It is a name brand, if that matters.
I started to take it and then stopped after about a week and half because it made me feel so out of it. Nauseated, tired, disconnected.
I read on these boards that this passes so that is encouraging.

I have a few questions for Metformin/Gluc users......

Did it help you with excessive hair?
If so, how long did it take?

When does the nauseated feeling pass?

Did anybody have a general "out of it" type feeling when they started meds?

Did it help with Aconthosis Nigricans?
If so, how long?

Any other advice?

Thank you in advance for whoever responds to this post.

o.k. first off hair ummmmm I wish I could say it did, but it has done nothing and I have been on it for over a year Aldactone/spironolactone lessened the hair, but had to stop taking it cause I was getting frequent af.

For me I started out on a low dose of met 250 mgs and worked upto 1500mgs slowly, but the nausea did pass. I found that gravol helped me out alot.

ohhhhh and yes I felt really out of it for the first week I started it, but it too should pass.

I hope that helps you out a little.

p.s. some of us have trigger foods like lettuce ect. that make tummy upset worse. If you find you eat a certian something then feel nausea or get the runs just try to avoid those things.

along with that keep up with your fluids on met..and also eat fiber from time to time...like an apple or cereal...bran muffin things like that...i think aside from the excessive hair everything should balance out...give it like 3-6mos...relax and keep up with meds...OH and with the out of it feeling that could also be related to your blood sugar...i feell ike that now cause it time to eat for me...
