Default Help!! Dizziness from eating carbs?

I'm a little worried right now, and I'm hoping someone has some ideas about what might have happened to me yesterday. Just a little background: I have not been tested for IR (my doctor did not think it was necessary given I have not had sypmtoms of low blood sugar), and given that I'm about 150 lbs (give or take) he didn't recommend that i worry about changing my diet if I can maintain my current weight with exercise.

Kiko and I slept in yesterday morning, so for breakfast at about 10:30 I had a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich (no sugar added peanut butter, "all fruit" jelly) and a glass of milk. We didn't eat lunch until about 3:00 (chicken and bean chili with cheese), some almonds around 6:30 and then finally had dinner at about 10:45pm. I was grouchy because I wanted to eat before that, but we were out running errands. We decided to go to steak and shake for dinner for lack of other options. We don't normally make a habit of eating so late, but our schedule was completely off yesterday. Anyway, I ordered the steak and shake meal -- a double cheeseburger, chocolate milkshake, fries, and a cup of chicken noodle soup. This is not how I typically eat -- I almost never eat fried food. I was starved, so I ate the burger, about half the fries, half the soup, and the entire chocolate milkshake. By the time we had finished eating and got ready to leave, I started feeling like I was completely drunk -- dizzy, couldn't quite walk straight, clumsier than usual, couldn't think straight either. It didn't feel serious enough to warrant a trip to the ER, so we went home and decided to watch TV for awhile. I don't know what time it was that I fell asleep, but I awoke at 4:00am and we were both still on the couch with the TV on.

So I guess, my question is, what would cause me to be so uncoordinated? The carbs? Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else? I'm not low carbing, but I am trying not to eat "bad" carbs on a regular basis.

Too many carbs give me that drunk feeling too. This is definitely a symptom of IR. It just means you have way too much insulin circulating and this results in a different reaction in different people. . .some people get really tired and others just get dizzy.

You may want to try a lower carb diet and see if that helps. I honestly had no idea how badly I was feeling until I eliminated a lot of carbs. Even if you don't do it to lose weight, just feeling better might be a good incentive.

I'm pretty sure that I read in the IR Diet book that eating too many carbs can cause you to feel dizzy. I would say that if you have never felt that way before and it was right after you ate the high carb meal, you can probably relate the two. Try watching your carbs and see if it happens again. If so, I would head to the doc.

I get more of a bloated, lazy feeling. Had spaghetti for dinner last night. Yum, but I felt like a pig for eating it, and didn't even finish.

I had been having dizzy spells, headaches and pins and needles. Whilst I'm overweight I am not obese so IR didn't occur to me originally, but then it was suggested by one of my wonderful Cysters on here and I was officially dx last week and put on met - no dizziness, no headaches and no pins and needles!!

Persist with your doctor to get tested.
