Ok, I apologize in advance for asking what seems to be already covered but I've read and searched and all I get is more confused!
I've just finished reading my Insulin Resistance Diet book and found the section on Omega-3 fatty acid deficiency very interesting. Seems like this might be the case for me, given that I have many of the symptoms. My question is this:
Which is better to take, evening primrose oil or fish oil? How is it taken? What is the 'standard' recommended dosage? Is it a liquid or capsule form? (I REALLY hate taking liquids, the tastes gross me out!)
From some of what I've read, the EPO is not good if you're trying to get pregnant, but I'm not concerned about that right now (can't even get a date, let alone pregnant! ). So, can someone please break it down for me? I'm sorry for appearing stupid, really I'm not, there's just so much info to wade thru that I thought I'd throw this to the wind and see if someone could help me out a little. Thanks in advance!

FYI: I just read on a webite for vitamins ( can't remember which one, but if I see it again i'll post it) that evening primrose oil can" Enhance" the release of testosterone and estogen! Which would be very bad in the case of PCOS women!
Has anyone else heard of this?

Fish oil and evening primrose oil both contain essential fatty acids but of a different nature. Fish oil contains large amounts of omega 3 fatty acids ( which most people are deficient in) and evening primrose oil contains a rare but very valuable omega 6 fatty acid called GLA. I would say that for maximum insulin control you should supplement with omega 3 fatty acids and GLA. They will both benefit you extremely is different ways. The omega 3 fatty acids in fish oil are EPA and DHA which directly affect the brain, nervous system and the heart and fish oil appears to be very good for hormonal balance and insulin control. GLA is also very effective for insulin control especially when combined with R+Alpha Lipoic Acid. It's been shown to aid weight loss to ease pms symptoms and to be the best thing out there for dry skin, hair problems and nail problems. Make sure you get high quality fish oil certified free of toxins and for GLA you might want to try borage oil or black currant seed oil instead of EPO since some people say that EPO can increase estrogen.
Borage oil also has Omega 6. Apparently it has twice as much as EPO, but also has some other fatty acids that can interfere with the GLA absorption. Here's the site:
