So i was diagnosed in 1996 with endometriosis. In 2001 I had my 2nd lap and my doctor said I had cysts on my ovaries. At the time he didn't say it was PCOS but called them chocolate cysts. Then several months later he mentioned the PCOS and that I should start taking metformin. I didn't do much about it. Then last year (after getting pregnant easily) he had me start metformin. I have never had major weight problems. I could lose 15 lbs since I had my son but I think some of it stems from lack of conviction. If i really put my mind to it and eat right and exercise then I lose weight at just the right speed. I never had any issues with periods or ovulating. I do have some unwanted hair and some acne.
My doctor never took any blood tests. Well I got sort of fed up with his doom and gloom BS about PCOS. He said I could never control it with diet and exercise and would have to take met forever. Well met kills my stomach. I vomit no matter how slow I ramp up and even with the slow release version. So I'm thinking I'm going to do this with diet and exercise. I've been exercising with cardio and weights (he also said weights weren't necessary which is bull) at least five days a week. i've also switched to a low GI diet. He says I can't do that b/c i can't eat fruit or even whole grains. I think that is also bull b/c in the fall I did that and lost a ton of weight. (in Feb I had to have my gallbladder removed and got depressed and stuffed my face with junk for a month straight so I gained the weight back)
Anyway I decided to go to my PCP to get some blood tests done. My hormone levels are normal. My fasting glucose is 83 which is normal. When I was pregnant I did the glucose tolerance test and that was normal too.
So if I have only two of the symptoms and my tests all seem normal am I really PCOS positive?????
Or maybe i'm mild PCOS and really have been controlling it with my diet and exercise.
Does anyone have any advice?
no offense your doctor is a dumbass get a new one.... if he did not do bloodwork then there are high chances you may not have you don not have all the typical symptoms!

Diagnosis's: Asthma Insulin Resistance
Medicines: Proventil HFA (1 puff every four hours as neeed for shortness of breath), Advair (250/50 2 times a day), Metformin (1 500mg pill daily)
you may have MILD pcos, but if you can control it with diet and exercise, then do it that way, so you don't have to stuff your face with pills all day like me lol. But if you have any doubts, consult another doctor and have blood tests done.

You might have a mild case, which can be controlled with diet and excercise, like tukeetukee said. I can't be sure why your doctor told you that you *have* to take Met and can't control it with diet and excercise, but I do have a few things in common with your experience: I'm not overweight, and I've always had a fairly regular cycle, but I definitely have facial and body hair, and some rather ambiguous symptoms. Most of my hormone levels are normal too, except LH/FSH ratio and DHEA. Keep in mind that PCOS is a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning that basically you get the dx if you have some of the symptoms, and they rule out everything else that could possibly explain them. So naturally it varies a lot from woman to woman. My doctor told me that he decided to diagnose me with PCOS because of my high LH/FSH ratio and my hair growth. I saw about 5 or 6 doctors that I wasn't satisfied with before getting to this one, too. So, no, you don't have to have all or even most of the symptoms. Doctors prescribe meds based on what your goals are, e.g. weight loss, TTC, treating hirsutism, etc. If nothing bothers you enough to want to take medication for it, it's your body and it's ultimately up to you. I might be going off Met next month, because it doesn't seem to be helping much. That's really just my experience--not sure if it helps at all but I hope so.

Single cyster. Thin cyster.
Buspirone 20 mg.

Thanks guys. My mom has a client that's a great regular Endocrinologist here in Dallas that I'm going to go to. since I'm not TTC right now I'm hoping he can actually give a definitive answer to my question.
I do also realize that my PCP is clueless as well since she knows I'm on Yasmin and they tested my Estrogen and called yesterday all worried that my estrogen levels are low. Well even I know that on Yasmin it stops your ovaries normal production of estrogen and substitutes it with the estrogen that's in the pill. That estrogen isn't detected by the test they run.
Maybe I should become a doctor...LOL
