I just found out today i have a large cyst on my left ovary (seen on ultrasound). I have been having bad pain and cramping in that area for the last day, and really severe bloating for about a month. How often do these things go away on their own? Getting rechecked in 3 weeks and if not gone it will have to be removed. Should I be nervous?
I just had an ultrasound yesterday and a large cyst was seen in my left ovary!
At least I think that's what it was. (big dark black circle inside ovary)
My hormones have run completely amok and my anxiety has been through the roof.
I've also started skipping cycles, which I never did before. Mine doesn't hurt but I did get some back ache on the left side and I can feel it when I move ( a little tender)
I don't have an answer. Basically the same question though!
I have to wait til tues for an answer on what's going on. Pretty freaked out in the meantime though.
Can they just drain it? I won't lose an ovary will I?
Did the dr say what kind of cyst? Some will go away on their own after a few months. I had some removed via lap surgery.

How big is the cyst? Did the doctor tell you how many millimeters? Did your doctor prescribe you BCPs?
I had a 27 mm cyst last cycle. It went away after one pack of Yasmin.

PP is right -- BCP *should* shrink it. Did your dr Rx you BCP to try to shrink it that way - it's MUCH easier & cheaper than surgery. For some cysts, however, surgery is required.

I had a large cyst on my right ovary, my doctor said that it was the size of a grapefruit (yikes)!!!. Needless to say I had to have it removed and I lost my right ovary because my doctor could not save it. Sorry I know this is not good news, but it really does depend on how big the cyst is, so hopfully you won't have to worry about surgry. The good news is even though I only have one ovary my doc assures me that it is more than enough to concieve!!!

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I had to have a large dermoid cyst (about 3 times the size of my uterus) removed in June and my doctor was also unable to save my right ovary. When I had my first ultrasound the tech missed about 1/3 of it and one month later when my doc performed another one to check and see if it had shrunk he found that it was much larger than they had anticipated because apparenly the tech didn't get the whole thing in the picture. My doctor said mine had been growing for quite awhile and there was no chance of it shrinking with BCP's. I had surgery the next week. It does depend on the size of the cyst so I don't want to scare you.
I hope you don't have to worry about surgery, but if that is the case I'd be happy to answer any questions that I can.

My gynecologist found a cyst on my right ovary in November 2007. It was fairly small, 2 centimeters if I remember correctly, so not even an inch. She told me that we should monitor it and if it continues to grow to have it removed laparoscopically. We monitored it and she did not give me the pill, which is what I wanted... she said that the cyst appeared to be solid and so it was not hormonally caused, so the pill would not affect it. If you do your research you will understand why - an ovarian cyst may be "functional" meaning it is growing as a part of your regular hormonal cycle - or it may be something like a dermoid cyst like I had, which is solid and not affected by hormones.
The cyst continued to grow on follow up ultrasounds, and so in February 2008 I had laparoscopic surgery to have it removed. It was not very invasive and I barely have any scarring, they made three small cuts, one under my belly button, and then two lower on my pelvis, one on each side. I was in the hospital for almost three whole days but I did have this surgery done in Italy, I have heard in the States it is a day surgery and they send you home right away. I did have to go under general anesthesia, and getting the IV for that was for me the worst part of the whole thing because I am deathly scared of having blood taken and IVs! So if that was the worst part that shows you it wasn't that bad.
My doctor was right, the cyst ended up being a dermoid cyst, also calld a teratoma. It is a solid cyst, basically a tumor like growth, and it was benign.
During the ultrasounds was when my doctor found out that I had polycystic ovarian syndrome, and I had originally went to her looking for the pill to help my acne, so that was also how I got diagnosed with PCOS.
I had a two inch cyst on my left ovary last year. I did some reading and subsequently cut all the caffeine out of my diet (caffeine is an inflammatory drug, and cysts are a result of inflammation). I also introduced a very high-quality fish oil into my diet. I took about six capsules a day. The cyst went away the next cycle.
I'm having a similar issue with a cyst on my left ovary. It's giving me symptoms like a UTI (peeing a lot, but in small amounts...bit of incontinence, etc), giving me pressure in pelvic area, a burning & stabbing pain, heat in the area. My gyno/endo is 300 miles away, but he called me today to talk about it. He told me to go to the ER right away today to get a blood pg test and an ultrasound. I refuse to go to the ER in this hick town, so I had my PCP order the pg test for the morning and I will get an ultrasound scheduled this coming week. My endo said that he fears not a cyst, but an ectopic pg due to my symptoms. I didn't get my period this month (had been regular for 3 months), I have symptoms like PMS that won't go away...horrid hunger, moodiness, sore breasts, etc. Anyway, I'm on blood-thinners, so I guess in either situation rupture would be bad.
Sorry to babble, but maybe the symptoms will help someone!

Reason: typo
By the way, I did take 3 negative hpt's this month. I still think it's my cyst giving me issues.
